My 600-lb Life is known for sharing authentic stories of higher-weight patients who are seeking help, like Cillas Givens, who was featured on season 7. During their introductions on My 600-lb Life, cast members are typically looking for help from Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, known as Dr. Now, in Houston, Texas. The surgeon asks patients to work on losing enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery. Once they are approved, they move through the surgery and aftercare processes.

With patients like Cillas, who have a great deal of weight to lose, it can be overwhelming to take on the process alone. Cillas weighed in at over 700 pounds, which left him dependent on oxygen, and confined to his bed. Originally hailing from Detroit, the reality star Cillas had a difficult and emotionally isolating childhood. He became addicted to food, as eating comforted him. He wanted to lose weight to improve his quality of life, so he could enjoy a happy life with his girlfriend, Jessica. Therefore, he sought the help of My 600-lb Life's Dr. Younan Nowzaradan.

Cillas Was A Success Story On My 600-Lb Life

When Cillas first got to Houston, he weighed 729 pounds, and needed to stay in the hospital in order to control his diet. He lost 139 pounds in his first month with Dr. Now, and then dropped another 75 pounds in a rehabilitation facility. After some difficulty, Cillas was approved for weight loss surgery, and had a successful operation. He dropped to 250 pounds within a year, and his achievement has been nothing short of incredible. According to Cillas' social media, the My 600-lb Life success story has lost even more weight since reaching his goal, and feels better than ever.

Cillas Has Been Focused On His Family Since Losing 500 Pounds

Cillas and his girlfriend Jessica got married, and the pair now spend as much time as they can with their daughters, in their home state of North Carolina. Cillas was unable to provide for his family before his weight loss, as he was confined to his bed. He now works for ContactUS Communications as a Customer Service Supervisor, and finds joy in being able to have a job that he can actually perform. He's got more options, due to improved mobility. Cillas says he is prepared to maintain his weight loss for the rest of his life, and has completely changed his outlook for the better.

While My 600-lb Life typically shows the hardships associated with extreme weight loss, the stories don't always have heartbreaking endings. Patients like Cillas are inspirational due to their dedication and hard work, and underscore the fact that people who have found themselves in difficult circumstances can turn things around. With people like Cillas working hard to improve themselves, others will surely take his lead, and try to better themselves, too.
