Jennifer Tilly teases her return in a new image from the Chucky series on Syfy. Tilly first appeared as Tiffany in 1998's Bride of Chucky, then again in 2004's Seed of Chucky, 2013's Curse of Chucky, and lastly in 2017's Cult of Chucky. Chucky is the titular possessed doll that first appeared in the 1988 horror film, Child's Play, created by Don Mancini, and has appeared in seven sequels, as well as a 2020 reboot.
The series began as straight horror, but later took a turn into horror/comedy with Bride of Chucky, with Tiffany adding a new layer to the franchise that wasn't there before. Tilly's Tiffany is a former lover of Charles Lee Ray (portrayed by Brad Dourif), the serial killer whose spirit inhabits the Chucky "Good Guy" doll's body. Tiffany is later transferred into her own Good Guy doll after Chucky kills her in human form, but she later repossess her body in the form of the "real" Jennifer Tilly and continues her murderous ways with the doll. Tilly is now set to reprise her role as Tiffany in the Chucky TV series, which is written and directed by Chucky creator, Don Mancini.
In anticipation of her return for the seventh episode of the show, Tilly shared an image of Tiffany wielding a syringe, saying that "Nurse Tiffany" is there to "administer your shot." The show recently kicked off its first season on USA and Syfy, becoming one of the most-watched new shows of 2021. Check out Tilly's post below:
Tilly has had a strong, decades-spanning career in Hollywood, starring in a number of different and memorable projects throughout the years. She was nominated for an Oscar for Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway in 1994 and would later star with Gina Gershon in The Wachowski's Bound in 1996. From there, Tilly would appear in projects, using her unique signature voice in both live-action and animated projects, including The Simpsons, Monsters, Inc. (as well as the Disney+ series, Monsters at Work), and Family Guy.
While the Child's Play/Chucky franchise has teetered between horror and comedy, Mancini seems to have settled into a general stride, balancing out both genres to fit the new show, which he laid the groundwork for in the last two feature films. Bringing back Tilly's Tiffany, as well as other franchise characters like Andy (Alex Vincent), Kyle (Christine Elise McCarthy), and Nica (Fiona Dourif) is a smart way to ensure longtime fans of the franchise will tune in to the new series as well. Ultimately, Mancini is tying all the films together in a Chucky cinematic universe that continues to unfold, while introducing new characters into the franchise as well. If it continues to be a hit, Chucky could be an '80s revival equivalent to Netflix's Cobra Kai, which seems to be the growing trend for shows based on popular franchises going forward.
