Syfy’s Chucky touches on every past movie in the franchise except Child’s Play 3 - but that doesn't mean Chucky season 2 can't fix this most hated of Chucky films. The 1991 slasher-comedy takes place eight years after Child’s Play 2 and sees a recast Andy Barclay sent to military school after bouncing around a series of foster homes. The notorious Good Guy doll Chucky again finds his way to Andy, but this time has a new target: 8-year-old cadet Tyler (Jeremy Sylvers). Child’s Play 3 was disliked by critics and fans alike, resulting in a poor 23% rating (via Rotten Tomatoes) and making it the poorest rated film of the franchise.

In contrast, the Chucky series has the perfect approach to a reboot, containing a great mix of old and new characters, and Chucky season 2 is already in the works. The Syfy series sees Brad Dourif reprise his role as Chucky while including other popular legacy characters such as Andy (Alex Vincent), Kyle (Christine Elise), Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly), and Nica (Fiona Dourif), who make their way to Hackensack, a picture-perfect neighborhood that soon becomes a nightmare locale after Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur) finds a possessed Good Guy doll at a yard sale.

The film that isn't spoken about once in Chucky season 1 is Child’s Play 3, the worst in the franchise. Yet Chucky season 2 can fix the most hated Child’s Play movie by bringing back Tyler and Kristen De Silva (Perrey Reeves), Andy’s teenage love interest. Bringing back the two as adults would add an interesting sub-plot to the series and improve upon the elements and characters from Child’s Play 3 by expanding on what the pair have been up to in the interim years. In doing so, the Chucky series can begin to erase some of the ill-feeling surrounding Chucky 3 by utilizing its most interesting characters in a far more compelling way.

Only so many people can relate to being attacked by a pint-sized killer doll, so it would be fascinating to see how the two characters have recovered since the traumatic events of Childs Play 3. Tyler was just a child, so he probably went through the same terrible repercussions and trauma that Andy did, possibly going to foster homes. Being at military school at such a young age, it is also possible he continued down the same path in the military - an avenue that Chucky season 2 could explore. Chucky season 1 also fails to specify if Andy is in a relationship, so bringing a love interest tied to the past via Kristen would be a great way to give these characters redemption from the universally reviled Chucky 3.

Curse of Chucky poked at the fact that Andy’s mom, Karen (Catherine Hicks), and Detective Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon) are alive in a call between Andy and Karen, meaning it is time for Child’s Play 3's characters to get the same treatment. Creator Don Mancini teased that additional Child’s Play characters could return in season 2, but whether they appear in Chucky season 2 or not, at least a reference to these forgotten faces can go some way to papering over the cracks of the most hated Child’s Play movie to date.
