Don Mancini addresses the possibility of a crossover between Chucky and M3GAN. Chucky, the murderous doll possessed by a serial killer, first appeared in Child's Play in 1988, a film which has since spawned an entire franchise, including six sequels and a television show. Mancini was inspired by the "Talky Tina" in The Twilight Zone, as well as the killer figurine in Trilogy of Terror. Chucky has since become the iconic king of the creepy doll horror trope. However, a new killer doll is growing in popularity with the upcoming science fiction horror film M3GAN, which features a girl-like android that becomes increasingly intelligent and murderous.

Mancini now speaks out about a potential Chucky and M3GAN crossover. While talking to ComicBook.com, Mancini reveals that he's officially discussing a variety of Chucky crossover ideas with Universal. He mentions that he has always been interested in a Freddy Krueger and Chucky crossover, but that a new killer doll has certainly crossed his mind. "I haven't seen the movie. All I've seen is what everyone else has seen and that's very fun," Mancini says regarding M3GAN. "I wouldn't be opposed to it."

Why A Chucky Vs. M3GAN Crossover Makes Sense

Chucky looking innocent in season 2

The buzz around M3GAN is already prompting discussions of a sequel months before the film's theatrical release. It's only natural to imagine a new modern version of the scary doll trope pitted against the classic model. Unlike other killer dolls like Annabelle from the Conjuring universe or Billy from Saw, both Chucky and M3GAN can speak independently and move freely. They are not demonic spirits or ancient evil entities; they have human consciousness and small bodies that are easy to maneuver.

However, there is a glaring difference between the two villains. Chucky is possessed by a human man, whereas M3GAN is an android. In this instance, Chucky's snarky sense of humor may be no match for an artificially intelligent robot that becomes self-aware and learns at a rapid speed. Strategically, M3GAN would probably be much more powerful. However, when it comes to appearances, Chucky's menacing face that has haunted generations of children may still be arguably scarier than M3GAN's uncanny appearance.

At first glance, the two killer dolls seem to present an interesting pair. Their similarities and differences would be interesting to explore in a crossover someday. As seen with movies like Freddy vs. Jason, there is an audience for horror villains from different franchises clashing in a surprising crossover. Perhaps there genuinely is a future ahead for both Chucky and M3gan. For now, one can only speculate about the latter since M3GAN still has yet to be released. Its short trailer has certainly succeeded in building anticipation around the new killer doll in town, but M3GAN still has to prove herself to Mancini as a worthy opponent of the iconic Chucky.
