Vin Diesel, star of franchises such as The Fast and the Furious and The Chronicles of Riddick, recently revealed that a new Riddick video game may potentially be in development. The sci-fi Riddick franchise, which began in 2000 with Pitch Black, cast Diesel in the role of dangerous intergalactic felon Richard B. Riddick. The film trilogy has also received two well-received video game spin-offs, Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena.

While the last Riddick console game having been 2009's Assault on Dark Athena (with a mobile-only game having release in 2013), many popular sci-fi movie franchises branched off into the world of gaming. Ubisoft recently revealed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, an upcoming open-world adventure set in the world of James Cameron's Avatar franchise. While the title's cinematic reveal trailer showed no gameplay, is did give a glimpse at how the iconic planet of Pandora has been reimagined. Players will be able to explore a new region of Pandora, encountering memorable creatures and meeting several new tribes of Na'vi. Ubisoft is also reportedly working on an open-world Star Wars title, adding an even more massive sci-fi franchise to its repertoire.

In a recent GamesRadar interview, Vin Diesel discussed the possibility of another Chronicles of Riddick video game. As the star discussed the future filming of next installment in the franchise, Riddick 4: Furya, video game spinoffs came up. Mentioning the success of the 2004 video game Escape from Butcher Bay, Diesel stated, "We did have great success with Escape From Butcher Bay. It feels like an eternity ago now. But, I imagine that we would take advantage of the gaming space and add an extra chapter," implying that a future entry would further expand on the franchise's canonical story so far.

The critical success of the franchise's previous two video game installments is proof that the Chronicles of Riddick franchise lends itself well to a gaming experience. Riddick is a character who lives on the fringes of society, so a survival experience similar to Icarus or something similar may be a clever direction to take the series' next video game chapter. Developer Rockewerkz'x newest upcoming title, Icarus is a sci-fi survival game that provides an isolated and strategic experience, which would easily fit with Vin Diesel's Riddick.

The Riddick franchise is more than two decades old, and star Vin Diesel is still committed to continuing and evolving the series. With a fourth film in production, a new game would be a perfect companion to compliment its eventual release. Whether this game follows in its predecessors' action/stealth footsteps or takes a different approach, fans of Riddick should keep an eye out for the next time Diesel drops a hint.
