The five starring roles in Chroma Squad, a tactical RPG that takes place in a fictitious television show, need the right cast, or the program could soon be canceled. Each actor in Chroma Squad has certain onscreen and backstage talents that can help build a lasting fandom.

While not an official Power Rangers game, Chroma Squad makes many references to it, Kamen Rider, and Space Sheriff. It even features characters that are obvious parodies of cast members or other famous actors. While it can be tempting to hire actors who mimic real-life shows, it is typically better to pick someone based on their in-game stats.

Each show within Chroma Squad allows only a single save slot that also autosaves after crucial events. This creates some minor survival elements as players cannot alter choices or radically change the show’s budget. This makes it extra important to record episodes that fans will love without breaking the bank.

Potential Actors in Chroma Squad

Casting Asimolaw as the lead in Chroma Squad

Chroma Squad features 18 actors for the five main show roles. For the most part, an actor’s per-episode salary should not matter past the first season unless players suffer heavy losses, dwindling fans, or select an expensive marketing campaign. The other stats are more important, as they can boost performance during fights and climactic mecha battles, or help with show budgeting. Once an actor is selected, the casting can never be altered for the show’s entire five-season run.

All the available actors in Chroma Squad and their stats appear below:

  • May Yeerum as “Wind”: $30, +20% Counter Attack, -30 Enemy Dodge, -30% Enemy Counter
  • Mao Shinmei as “Lee”: $30, +3% Critical, +20% Attack
  • Dude Lee as “Jet”: $20, +4 Skill Regen, +10% Critical, -20% Health

Starring Roles in Chroma Squad

Dock fight in Chroma Squad

The Chroma Squad team is always made up of five members, each with a default color that can be adjusted. They begin each episode in their civilian identity but can transform with the “Chromatize” option when there is a large enough audience tuning in. Once in this mode, they gain access to weapons, armor, and special abilities.

Scout (Yellow): the Scout can get into combat faster with +1 movement. They have the ability to stun nearby enemies. Starting in season two, they can equip daggers, increase their movement by another +2, or gain a bonus +20% Dodge. In season three, they can make an extra attack while Chromatized, can turn invisible in season four, and can damage multiple foes in season five.

There are two options for casting a Scout. The first is to maximize their speed and dodging with actors like J Blues and Ryo Yoshi. The other method is to equalize their high movement with otherwise slower actors like Evan Thai, Gus Fane, or Antitonic. Evan in particular will turn the Scout into a devastating attacker.

Assault (Black): The Assault is the team’s main damage dealer who can also propel allies farther with Acrobatics. In season two, they learn to use axes, but players could give them pistols for a bit more attack range. This is especially true in season two, as they can hit large groups with martial arts alone. They become even stronger in season three, will randomly cleave with their normal attack in season four, and can stun with their basic attack in season five.

The best means of casting Assault is to pile on even more damage with actors like Mao Shinmei, Evan Thai, or Gus Fane. Weasley Stripes is also great for pistol shots, but the Assault will always be better in melee range. Another option is to make enemies pay for challenging them with Counter Attack actors like May Yeerum and Micha.

Lead (Red): Lead is the traditional beefy tank with increased HP and the ability to pull in foes. Because of their status on the show, certain objectives or episodes will focus on them. In season two, they can gain another +15% HP or deal high damage with their unique spears but should pick between a spear or sword based on the secondary defensive bonuses. In season three, they can bring all allies to their location. In season four, they can heal everyone around them, and, in season five, they can power up Team Attacks.

A good way to cast the Lead is to increase their HP or Dodge with actors like J Blues, Micha, Asimolaw, or Mr. Beaver. However, late-game Leads can excel from their diverse skills, making Skill Regen actors like Ingrid Johansson and Michael Florian viable. Another option is to make enemies chase the Lead as Ryo Yoshi.

Techie (Blue): the Techie is a deadly marksman when Chromatized, but is the weakest and most vulnerable role while in civilian form. Once transformed, they can lower enemy defenses and hasten their skill cooldowns with each additional skill used. In season two they can wield sniper rifles, like the Infiltrator class in Mass Effect, and they can even teleport around the map. In season three, they can debuff enemy damage and speed. In season four, they can increase ally defense, and in season five, they may randomly negate cooldowns.

The Techie wants to be using skills often, so casting actors with high Skill Regen like Dude Lee, J Blues, Ingrid Johansson, or Alien is a good idea. However, because they are sitting ducks while a civilian, players might consider choosing more rounded actors like Mao Shinmei or Antitonic.

Lead drags Breadcrumb closer in Chroma Squad

Assist (Pink): As the name implies, the Assist is keen to help others over themselves as the traditional group Healer role; they even heal nearby allies whenever entering Teamwork stance. In the first season, they can cure one friend for 50% HP, and, in season two, a whole group for 30% HP. In season three, they become even stronger with a revive skill. They can remove status effects in season four. In season five, they can instead switch all their healing into equivalent damage attacks. Their special weapon is a bow with nice range, but for the most part, players should select any weapon based on its secondary stats.

Like the Techie, the Assist needs to Chromatize sooner than later. This way, they can make use of all their skills. Good actors to cast include J Blues, Ingrid Johansson, and Michael Florian. Another possibility is to maximize survival with actors like Micha, Mr. Beaver, or Antitonic.

While these are the five core roles in Chroma Squad, plenty of episodes will also feature guest stars to use in battle. Starting in season five, it is also possible a sixth hero may join the ensemble. However, none of these surprise additions can be customized and will always have a predefined casting and build.
