Christopher Plummer was one of Hollywood's last classic movie stars. Plummer got his start at an early age performing at his school in Canada. In the early 1950s, Plummer made his Broadway debut and worked steadily as a New York stage actor for many years before moving to London to work in theater there, where he received even more great roles and recognition for his work.

Plummer plays Captain von Trapp, the father to the seven von Trapp children and new husband to Andrews' Maria, who now must get his family safely to Switzerland to escape the Nazi regime.

This 2010 heavy romantic comedy stars Ewen McGregor and Christopher Plummer as a father and son trying to get to know one another better with what little time they have left. McGregor plays Oliver, whose mother has just died and so he begins to spend more time with his father, Hal, played by Plummer.

After his wife's death, Hal comes out and spends the rest of his years openly gay and learning even more about himself and living his truth. For his performance in this film, Plummer received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (86%)

This psychological crime thriller is based on the Swedish novel by the same name and stars Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist (a disgraced journalist) and Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander (a computer hacker) who becomes Blomkvist's unlikely partner in solving a forty-year old mystery for a wealthy older man, Henrik Vanger, played by Christopher Plummer.

Malcolm X (88%)

This dramatic biographical feature film by Spike Lee stars Denzel Washington in the title role, playing Black activist, Malcolm X. The film follows Malcolm X's life and the key events: his incarnation, conversion to Islam, his marriage to Betty X, his pilgrimage to Mecca, and his assassination.

In the movie, Christopher Plummer plays Chaplain Gill, the racist prison chaplain of Malcolm X's prison. The film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 2010.

12 Monkeys (90%)

This science fiction film begins in the year 2035 where most of the world has been wiped out by a deadly virus years earlier and the survivors now live underground. James Cole, played by Bruce Willis, is a prisoner and selected to be trained and sent back in time to try to stop the virus, which they believe was released by a group called the Army of the Twelve Monkeys. In the film, Plummer plays Dr. Leland Goines, virologist and father to Jeffrey Goines, played by Brad Pitt, who is the leader of the Army of the Twelve Monkeys.

The Insider (96%)

This film, though not a box office success, was critically acclaimed for its story and the performances. The film centers around the real-life 60 Minutes segment about Jeffrey Wigland, who was a whistleblower in the tobacco industry and fought to give the public the truth about tobacco and the inner workings of a clearly corrupt industry.

In the film, Christopher Plummer plays real-life news anchor, Mike Wallace, for which he received a number of Best Supporting Actor nominations.

The Man Who Would Be King (97%)

The Man Who Would Be King is a 1975 adventure film, in Technicolor, that stars Sean Connery, Michael Caine, Saeed Jaffrey, and Christopher Plummer. The film is based on the 1888 novel by the same name and tells the story of two ex-soldiers who set out to find adventure in the late 1880's British India but end up in Kafiristan, where one of the men is mistaken for a god and made king of the land.

Knives Out (97%)

Rian Johnson's 2019 critically acclaimed feature film, Knives Out, boasts a very impressive ensemble cast. In the film, Christopher Plummer plays the patriarch of the Thrombey family, Harlan, who is mysteriously found dead in his room, leading to a who-done-it investigation by Daniel Craig and his team as they observe and interview the eccentric family to figure out how Harlan Thrombey really died.

Pixar's 2009 hit animated feature film, Upis about a widowed old man who sets off on an adventure to find Paradise Falls, where he and his wife always wanted to go. The old man, Carl ties thousands of balloons to his house to make it float so that he can move everything he has to this far away place. Carl gets a lot more than he bargained for when he discovers Russell, a young wilderness explorer was on the porch when the house took flight and now they must venture together. Christopher Plummer voices Charles F. Muntz, the explorer who inspires Carl to take flight.
