The Christmas Chronicles: Part 2 follows two children who embark on an exciting adventure with Santa and Mrs. Clause after they are whisked away from their sunny Cancun Christmas vacation to the icy tundra of the North Pole. Much of the cast returns from the 2018 original, including Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn as Santa and his wife, as well as Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Darby Camp as the mother/daughter team of Claire and Kate Pierce.

Newcomers to the sequel include Tyrese Gibson, Jazhir Bruno, and Deadpool 2's Julian Dennison as Bellsnickle the Elf. Director Chris Columbus (Home Alone) brings his mastery of warm holiday vibes with Part 2, which effortlessly balances humor, warmth, and whimsical adventure, adding up to an instant seasonal classic that solidifies Kurt Russell's portrayal of Santa Claus as one of the all-time greats.

While promoting the release of The Christmas Chronicles: Part 2, Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Darby Camp spoke to Screen Rant about their work on the film, from building their bond over the course of two films to their thoughts on having a snowy Christmas, as opposed to opening presents on a warm beach. Finally, Darby talks about how she prepares to shoot some of the more dramatic scenes in the film, and what she does, both emotionally and physically, to make sure she can get in the proper headspace.

The Christmas Chronicles: Part 2 is out now on Netflix.

I just saw your movie, and I loved it. It was so jolly, like a warm blanket. When you're playing mother and daughter, tell me, do you size each other up and are like, "Okay, this is something we have common ground on that we can share, that people will look at us and go, they're related?"

Kimberly Williams-Paisley: Well, we have the same hair, which worked our really well. You can't tell right now, but I think Darby and I have the same kind of curly hair. But we did go out to dinner on the first movie. I thought that was really helpful. I got to know Darby's mom and eventually her dad. Our families, especially on this one, the kids got to play together, and I do think it helps on screen when we have that relationship off screen.

Darby Camp: Yes, I totally agree with that.

Darby, there is a scene that is so emotionally heavy. It's a scene at the airport...

Darby Camp: Yes.

I don't want to spoil anything, but tell me a little bit about preparing for something like that. There's so much jolly vibes, cozy feelings, and then there's this scene that's so dramatic that it made me cry. Tell me about preparing for something like that.

Darby Camp: Preparing for scenes like that, I definitely try to think of things that are sad, things that have happened with my family. Like, losing my pet. I do try to think about how that character would feel in the situation that she's in. Like, how does Kate feel about what she's doing with her family? And try to think about things that would make me sad. And I also try to hold my eyes open and try to dry them out so they water. That helps, too! (Laughs) But yes, I would say it's difficult to prepare for scenes like that.

Last question. I've never had a warm beach Christmas. I actually live on the beach, but in New York, so it's super cold on Christmas. Do you prefer a "White Christmas," or a beach Christmas with palm trees?

Darby Camp: White Christmas.

Kimberly Williams-Paisley: I definitely... Yeah, white Christmas. I went to California once, for Christmas, and they were trucking in snow for kids to try to sled on, and it just wasn't the same thing.

Darby Camp: I could feel Kate's pain when she was in Mexico. (Laughs)

Thanks so much, the movie is beautiful, and you're both incredible in it.
