Chris Pratt considers the possibility of returning to the franchise after Jurassic World: Dominion. Pratt first portrayed Velociraptor expert Owen Grady in 2015's Jurassic World. Grady, an on-site animal behaviorist at the Jurassic World theme park, is in the midst of training four Velociraptors (Blue, Charlie, Echo and Delta) when the events of the first film kick off. Pratt would later reprise his role in 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and he is also set to return in Dominion in June of this year.
In recent interviews leading up to the release of the next installment, Pratt called Dominion the end of the Jurassic World franchise. Pratt explained his comments by citing Dominion's story, which sees the return of original Jurassic Park stars Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and Ian Malcom (Jeff Goldblum). Since these original Jurassic Park legacy characters are teaming up with the Jurassic World characters, Pratt believes the franchise is now complete. However, it seems the actor is still open to other possibilities.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Pratt toyed with the possibility of returning to the franchise after Jurassic World: Dominion. During the interview, when asked if he would return, Pratt compared Jurassic World to Marvel and how Disney continues to make MCU films, even after Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. "I mean, I guess it would probably... possibly? You'd want to leave it open to that possibility. You look at... There aren't a ton of comps for this kind of a thing. I think maybe Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame is a similar comp because you've got whatever that was... 10 years, 20-something films. All of these characters each had their own stories, their own trilogies, coming together. And you're like, 'This is wild.' You've seen these worlds collide. It feels the same way. You've got the Jurassic Park trilogy. You've got the Jurassic World trilogy, and it's this big epic conclusion. Now, at the end of Avengers ... They've continued to make these Marvel films, but that does feel like a phase that is over. It's rolled over into a new phase, you know? And of course, Marvel continues to do great things. I feel like it seems, it makes sense that Jurassic would continue to tell great stories, but I think Iron Man's gone. And I guess I would be Hulk. Maybe."
While Jurassic World: Dominion is seemingly gearing up to be the end of the reboot trilogy, it's doubtful that the franchise will truly end. The entire Jurassic Park/World franchise has proven time and time again to be a commercial success for Universal Pictures. Not only did the original 1993 Jurassic Park make over $1 billion at the box office, but 2015's Jurassic World grossed over $1.6 billion at the box office, and 2018's Fallen Kingdom brought in over $1.3 billion. Similarly to how Pratt compared the franchise to the MCU, Disney continues to make Marvel movies as they continue to make money, and Universal could be wise to adopt Disney's model for Jurassic World.
Given it's massive popularity, there's a good chance that more Jurassic World films will come down the road. However, whether those projects might serve as spin-offs, or an entirely new story, remains to be seen. Still, despite his earlier comments, it seems Pratt is now open to the possibility of bringing Owen Grady back again. This may indiciate that the character won't fall prey to dinosaurs when Jurassic World: Dominion releases next month.
