WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Thor: Ragnarok

Chris Hemsworth says he'll be bringing something he obtained in Thor: Ragnarok to Avengers: Infinity War. Thor: Ragnarok without question marked the biggest departure from status quo for any character in the nearly 10-year history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, thanks in large part to the hiring of director Taika Waititi, who brought a set of unique filmmaking sensibilities to the third Thor solo film. The helmer, whose credits include the acclaimed indie hit What We Do in the Shadows, turned away from the more serious tone established by the first two Thor films and gave the God of Thunder's journey a much lighter feel that included an ample amount of comedy and cosmic colors.

By all indications, Waititi's change-up in style for the third solo film works for just about everybody across the board, from critics, whose consensus resulted in a 93 percent "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes; to fans, who are turning out in droves stateside this weekend for what looks to be a domestic opening haul in the neighborhood of $115 million to $120 million. Along with an already massive haul overseas, Thor Ragnarok will likely cross the $400 million mark globally by Monday.

But as fans discovered in Thor: Ragnarok, Thor not only carries himself differently than we've seen him before, he's also changed his looks considerably thanks to the prep work he underwent to participate in the Grandmaster's gladiator-style Contest of Champions against Hulk on the junk planet of Sakaar. And while the film's teaser trailer made it clear from the outset that Thor was losing his long, blond locks at the hands of one very crafty barber before the match, fans were no doubt taken by surprise by something else he lost later in the film.

In an interview with EW, Hemsworth says that Thor will retain in Avengers: Infinity War the eye patch that he acquired after losing his right eye during the final showdown with Hela (Cate Blanchett) in the third act of Ragnarok, noting, “Yeah we carry it into the film with the eye patch you see in this film.”

The loss of Thor's eye marked a symbolic moment in the film, since the patch he wears is similar to the one his father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins), wears in the Thor trilogy. Waititi tells EW that by Thor losing his eye, it adds to the deconstruction of the character throughout the film. He says:

“That kind of just evolved just throughout the script process, to just keep stripping that character down, having him lose the hammer and all those things and to kind of create a broken version of the character. At the end, he sort of becomes a refugee.”

Fans, of course, will find out how Thor mounts a comeback when Avengers: Infinity War is released on May 4, 2018. Until then, fans should look for more of Thor's new eye patch whenever Marvel Studios decides to drop its first trailer for the film, which with any luck, will be sooner rather than later.
