Marvel worried that Limitless with Chris Hemsworth might kill the actor. For over a decade, Hemsworth has pushed the limits of strength training in order to maintain a chiseled superhero physique as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Hemsworth's new reality series, Limitless, pushes the actor even further in an attempt to discover the full potential of the human body. Created by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, Limitless sees Hemsworth attempt various death-defying stunts, including swimming in Arctic waters and walking along a skyscraper crane.

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Hemsworth talks about putting his body to the test in Limitless, which made Marvel seriously worried. While training for one intense stunt that involved climbing a 100 feet tall rope, Hemsworth injured his ankle. This prompted a rather unique response from Marvel. Read what he shared below:

I said, "Great, we’ll do it before I shoot Thor." Anyway, I started training, I blow my ankle out, and Marvel stepped in and said, "No. The show that might kill him, you can do that after our film."

How Important Chris Hemsworth Is To The MCU

Considering how important Hemsworth's Thor is to the MCU, it's understandable that Marvel would want to protect the actor at all costs. Thor is the only original Avenger left in the MCU leading his own sub-franchise which, after four installments, is still going strong. Thor: Love and Thunder's ending appeared to set Hemsworth's God of Thunder up for more adventures in Thor 5 alongside his adopted daughter, Love, with the credits specifically stating that Thor will return. The mid-credits scene also established Hercules as a viable candidate for the hero's next antagonist. As of right now, however, Marvel has yet to confirm Thor's next MCU appearance, letting speculation run rampant online instead.

With Hemsworth appearing in all four Avengers films as Thor, it's likely he will also be back in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for release in 2025 and 2026, respectively. Since Thor is one of the team's most senior members, he could realistically be leading the Avengers the next time they assemble on screen. If Marvel does have long-term plans in mind for Thor, it gives them all the more incentive to protect Hemsworth and temporarily pause production of his daring documentary series.

While audiences are used to seeing Hemsworth's swashbuckling adventures as Thor, Limitless will see the actor engaging in actual heroics on screen. Staying in peak physical shape is an important part of playing the immortal superhero, though in Limitless, Hemsworth steps outside the gym and attempts a gauntlet of physical feats designed to combat the aging process by reducing stress, shocking the body, and building strength. Limitless with Chris Hemsworth begins streaming November 16 on Disney+.
