Actor Chris Hemsworth is set to star as worldwide wrestling star Hulk Hogan in an upcoming Netflix biopic. Hemsworth has built a wild fanbase stemming from his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Hulk Hogan is one of the most recognizable names within pro wrestling. When pro wrestling took off in the late '80s, Hogan, whose real name is Terry Gene Bollea, became one of the most popular faces in the industry. Hulkamania continued through the next decade with the popularity of the World Wrestling Federation. Hogan's heroic persona and in-ring antics resulted in a loyal fanbase. Although scandals plagued his later years, Hogan is still considered one of the most iconic pro wrestlers in history. A separate film focusing on his battle with Gawker was reportedly in the works as of last year.

According to THR, the Hogan biopic will be directed by Todd Phillips with a producing team that includes Bradley Cooper. The project also reunites Phillips with screenwriter Scott Silver. The pair, along with Cooper, is currently working together on Joker. The upcoming biopic will be an origin story of sorts with Hemsworth portraying Hogan at the rise of his wrestling career. Besides starring in the lead role, Hemsworth is additionally serving as a producer on the project.

Considering the biopic focuses on the early years of Hulk Hogan, the project will most likely take place in the '70s to early '80s. THR's report states that the biopic will not cover his entire professional career, including his troubles outside of the ring later in life. Aside from wrestling, Hogan made a career in acting and TV hosting gigs. He's still a prominent member of the wrestling world and continues to appear at various events.

Hemsworth is no stranger to biopic roles. In 2013, h starred as British Formula One racer James Hunt in Rush. His performance alongside actor Daniel Brühl was praised by critics and viewers. He's also starred in the films In the Heart of the Sea and 12 Strong, both of which were inspired by real-life events.

Training for his Hulk Hogan role shouldn't be an issue for Hemsworth. The star has years of intense training under his belt for his portrayal as the God of Thunder. Hemsworth's workout regime has gained the attention of many social media users. Just recently, the 35-year-old Aussie launched his own fitness and health app. The wrestler physique doesn't seem like it will be an issue but fans will surely be eager to see him sporting that iconic Hulk Hogan handlebar mustache. He had the Thor-worthy golden locks down so there's no doubt that his facial hair game will be equally as strong.
