Chris Hemsworth has starred in a variety of movies, often with a leading role. He's been a Norse god, a hacker, a sailor, a secret agent, and more. Most of his characters are the kinds of people who help others in tough situations, but not every character is suited for the heroic Hogwarts house of Gryffindor.

While Hemsworth has portrayed a large number of Gryffindors, he's also played a lot of characters that value loyalty and hard work - Hufflepuffs. In fact, most of the characters he's played would be sorted into those two Hogwarts houses, but there is the odd Slytherin or Ravenclaw amongst the bunch.

Updated on July 29th, 2022 by Amanda Bruce: Movie fans will probably always associate Chris Hemsworth with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Thor, but he's got an incredibly diverse body of work outside of his time wielding Mjolnir. Hemsworth certainly has a character type, playing those who are earnest with big hearts, but he isn't afraid to challenge himself with some out of the box roles either. Most recently, he became a scientist in a secret testing facility for Netflix's Spiderhead, giving fans a look at a new side to his performances.

Kim Hyde (Home And Away): Gryffindor

One of Chris Hemsworth's earliest roles was on the Australian soap Home And Away where he played a young Kim Hyde. The teen comes into the show as someone who always follows his heart, and that's exactly how he leaves the show as romance sees him moving to a new locale.

While most fans associate Gryffindors with bravery, they're also the type of people who wear their hearts on their sleeves and have an incredibly stubborn mindset. That's exactly who Kim is, unable to hide his feelings about anyone or anything.

Steve Abnesti (Spiderhead): Ravenclaw

While some fans might argue that Dr. Abnesti is a Slytherin due to the way he hides his true intentions from the prisoners, the truth is, he's all about the research. The goal he has involves filling out a seemingly arbitrary Bingo card for his drug trials, but he's genuinely interested in what each of the compounds do. He even uses them on himself.

Abnesti has a lot of Slytherin traits with his cunning nature and his ambition, but his motivation is knowledge, making his primary house Ravenclaw.

Tyler Rake (Extraction): Hufflepuff

Chris Hemsworth As Tyler Rake In Extraction Hufflepuff

A former military man who freelances for the highest paycheck after his son dies, Tyler Rake seems like all he cares about is the money when fans first meet him. That's not true.

He cares about his contract - and honoring it. When he realizes that his contract is never going to be paid out on a dangerous extraction method, he doesn't give the job up. Instead, he holds on to the kid that is his target, still trying to get him through hostile territory. When he realizes there's no way the kid will survive without him, he's willing to sacrifice himself to make sure an innocent boy doesn't pay for his family's mistakes.

Agent H (Men In Black International): Gryffindor

Chris Hemsworth As Agent H In Men In Black International Gryffindor

Much of the personality Agent H exhibits in the movie is manufactured thanks to his own memory being altered. That being said, once the gaps in his memory are revealed, just who he is is pretty clear.

Like most MIB agents, H is someone who can't let justice go unchecked. He has to make sure the bad guys pay and the good guys win. He's willing to put himself on the line to do it - especially if it means protecting the planet. That bravery and moral fiber would put him right in line with Harry Potter himself.

Nick Hathaway (Black Hat): Ravenclaw

Chris Hemsworth As Nick Hathaway In Blackhat Ravenclaw

When a movie is all about the work of a hacker, the audience knows the character is going to be smart. Nick Hathaway, however, isn't just smart. He's able to apply his abstract knowledge of computers and technological systems to the world around him.

Hathaway spends the movie always one step ahead of the law enforcement that enlists his help. He also spends the movie a step ahead of the hacker who stole his code and used it to sabotage a nuclear power plant. The way he is able to adapt his own knowledge to that of the criminal he's after is a sure sign of a Ravenclaw.

Kevin (Ghostbusters): Hufflepuff

Chris Hemsworth As Kevin In Ghostbusters Hufflepuff

Kevin is kind of hard to pin down in the Paul Feig version of Ghostbusters. He's primarily the comic relief of the movie, and he's really terrible at his job. As a result, fans know he doesn't really fit into Ravenclaw or Slytherin right away. He's got some brave moments, but he doesn't really seem like a Gryffindor either.

That leaves Hufflepuff by default. With Hufflepuff as an incredibly welcoming house, modeled after Hogwarts founder Helga Hufflepuff believing everyone deserved a fair education, no matter their magical heritage, it's a good fit for him.

Eric The Huntsman (Show White And The Huntsman): Gryffindor

Chris Hemsworth As The Huntsman In Snow White And The Huntsman Gryffindor

Though he doesn't initially show his emotions much, the Huntsman does spend a lot of his time following his heart. His heart is the whole reason he decides not to do Queen Ravenna's bidding and help Snow White.

It's also his heart that leads him back to his wife in the sequel movie. Eric shows a lot of bravery, defying rulers with magical abilities in both stories, despite him not having a hope of combatting magic on his own.

Billy Lee (Bad Times At The El Royale): Slytherin

Chris Hemsworth As Billy Dee In Bad Times At The El Royale Slytherin

Given the fact that Billy Lee is the leader of a cult, it seems pretty obvious that he's a charismatic leader who loves his hold on power. He loves his power so much that when he learns that one of his flock has been kidnapped by her own sister to get her out of his cult, he travels to retrieve her himself.

Of course, while there, he also takes the opportunity to find new ways to exert his power - by staking a claim on money hidden at the motel and a steamy video he thinks will be worth some money. His ambition and greed get the better of him, which can be the downfall of any Slytherin that goes too far.

Curt (The Cabin In The Woods): Gryffindor

Chris Hemsworth As Curt In The Cabin In The Woods Gryffindor

As Curt and his friends go on their disastrous road trip, their character traits become exaggerated thanks to outside influences. The more exaggerated Curt becomes in the "jock" stereotype, the closer he becomes to his Gryffindor sorting.

Curt is stubborn and hot-headed, not really listening to anyone else's opinions. He's also more about having a good time than playing it safe.

Owen Chase (In The Heart Of The Sea): Hufflepuff

Chris Hemsworth as Owen Chase In The Heart Of The Sea Hufflepuff

Owen Chase is a sailor who longs to captain his own ship. He's spent his life working his way out of poverty to make a life for his wife so they can start a family. Chase, however, has to play the hand he's dealt, which means he's stuck in the perennial role of the first mate.

He's loyal to the crew and the job on the whaling ship, trying to do what's best for everyone. Chase warns their inexperienced captain time and again when the other man makes questionable decisions. It's his hard work and perseverance that helps to keep the men going when they're shipwrecked.

Jed Eckert (Red Dawn): Gryffindor

Chris Hemsworth As Jed Eckert In Red Dawn Gryffindor

If Jed Eckert attended Hogwarts, he would have been in Dumbledore's Army, for sure. Jed isn't in the Red Dawn remake for long, but his brief presence is a powerful one.

Jed initially leads his ragtag group of teens like they're guerrilla soldiers. It's Jed's willingness to stand up to the invaders in their small town, and Jed's stubborn fighting mindset that inspires his brother and his friends to keep going.

Thor (Marvel Cinematic Universe): Hufflepuff

Chris Hemsworth As Thor In The MCU Hufflepuff

As the god of thunder, Thor shows incredible charisma, leadership abilities, and ego. It's true that he would likely be a decent fit for the stereotypical hero's house of Gryffindor. Thor, however, is so loyal he couldn't be sorted anywhere other than Hufflepuff.

Thor loves his brother Loki dearly, even when Loki tries to kill him repeatedly. He makes friends on strange planets and finds himself powerful allies in The Avengers. Thor is the one who goes on his strange journey to find out more information about the threat of Thanos. He learns that he has to put in the work to be a hero, and once he learns that, he doesn't turn back. It's only in his grief at losing his brother and half of his people that he briefly gives up on protecting others.
