Chris Hemsworth is contemplating taking a hiatus from acting after surviving a very busy 2017. Set to reprise his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for at least two more times in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, the Australian actor might no longer take any more projects in the next few months as he focuses his attention to his family of five.

Playing Thor for almost nine years now across five blockbusters and two Avengers films still on the way, Hemsworth has been a staple in the limelight almost immediately after he made the jump from being an Australian actor to a Hollywood star. Aside from his massive Marvel gig, he has also found a way to venture into other big screen projects such as the Snow White and the Huntsman franchise, the Ghostbusters female remake and a few others. No wonder he feels the need to take a much-deserved breather.

Speaking with The Times UK (via Comicbook.com) while promoting his current film, the war drama 12 Strong, the actor made the surprising revelation about planning to take a hiatus from Hollywood. The reason? Wanting to spend more time with his family, especially his kids who he says are growing up pretty fast, leaving him feeling as if he's missing so much.

“I want to be able to take the kids to school. I may even be off all year. It all happened at once and I’ve thought about it and gone, ‘God, am I trying to do too much at once? There’s no regret by any means. It just comes out of wanting to be [at home] more.

"I want to be there more. My wife and I were talking the other day about how the years are flying by: our daughter [India Rose] is five and a half and the boys [twins called Tristan and Sasha] are three and a half. And however much time you do have together, it never seems like enough. It’s always exhausting, even when we have help with grandparents or a nanny.”

Hemsworth has been open about his wife, actress Elsa Pataky, being generous and putting her own career on hold to take care of their kids while he continues acting. In the last year alone, he has been busy juggling time between his personal and public life. On top of filming Infinity War and its sequel, he also rigorously promoted Thor: Ragnarok with director Taika Waititi. Fortunately, principal photography of that flick was based on his home country, Australia, allowing him to sneak quality family time during production breaks.

Having said that, we assume that Hemsworth will still emerge from his self-inflicted break to promote Avengers: Infinity War due in just a few more months. And if his hiatus spills into next year, it's safe to say that the same will happen for the still-untitled Avengers 4 sequel. Whatever the actor and his family ultimately decide on, it's obvious that he is not yet ready to give up being an actor. In fact, he and Waititi already have ideas for a possible Thor 4.
