The arrival of The Gray Man on Netflix has everyone talking about the villainous turn from Chris Evans. Even though reviews so far mean that it will likely not end up ranking among the best movies in Evans's career, there's no doubt that his performance is incredibly entertaining.

Regardless of the quality of a film, Evans is always a safe bet to be a highlight. His filmography is filled with great releases within the MCU, the sci-fi genre, and plenty of comic book adaptations. The best work of Chris Evans's career is evident by looking at the impressive ratings given out on Letterboxd.

It's hard to think of a movie from the 2000s with a more impressive cast that wasn't a huge blockbuster. There are also stars behind the film as Danny Boyle directed Sunshine and Alex Garland wrote it.

The story takes place in 2057 as a group of astronauts embark on a mission to reignite the dying sun. As they near their destination, they are truly put to the test. Evans plays the engineer of the team, James Mace, who works with a level head and has a dry personality.

Captain America: Civil War (2016) - 3.63

After a memorable run as Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four movies, Chris Evans returned to Marvel to play Steve Rogers in 2011. He made the Captain America role his own and seemingly got better as the character as the franchise progressed.

The final leg in his trilogy was Captain America: Civil War, which put the heroes on opposing sides after the government intervenes in their efforts. While it's iconic for debuting Spider-Man and Black Panther to the MCU and for featuring so many characters, it's Evans who makes this work. The relationship between Steve and Bucky remains the heart of this epic.

Snowpiercer (2013) - 3.67

Chris Evans is no stranger to comic book movies, as evidenced by his legendary Marvel roles but it's far from all he's appeared in. 2013 saw him star in Snowpiercer, which is based on a comic book about a train that travels around the world with survivors after the world is ravaged by a climate incident.

Snowpiercer is directed by Oscar winner Bong Joon-ho and sees Evans star as Curtis Everett, the leader of a revolution as poor people fight back against the wealthy elite running things. The film was met with widespread acclaim that further cemented Evans as a leading man.

Grossing more than $1 billion, The Avengers solidified that the MCU experiment was working wonders. Evans played off of his co-stars incredibly well, especially when it comes to Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson, who he'd star alongside in plenty of other films.

Gifted (2017) - 3.70

It's always a treat to see an actor follow up a massive commercial success with a smaller indie flick. That's just what Chris Evans did in 2017, sandwiching Gifted in between billion-dollar grossing releases like Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.

Gifted sees Evans play Frank Adler, a man who is raising his genius niece after his sister's death and gets into a custody battle with his mother, who wants to exploit the girl's intelligence. The Marc Webb-directed film did well commercially and critically and features a great emotional Evans performance.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) - 3.78

While his debut as Captain America was strong, Evans got to shine brightest in arguably the best solo film in the MCU, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The movie is beloved for blending superhero action with the tense nature of a political thriller.

Once again, Evans was great in the role and a big part of that stemmed from his chemistry with his co-stars. Working alongside Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, and Anthony Mackie is basically when Evans is at his best in the franchise, which was evident here.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010) - 3.87

In between his starring roles in Fantastic Four, Snowpierecer, and the MCU, Chris Evans had a hilarious supporting turn in another comic book movie. Directed by Edgar Wright, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is one of the most faithful comic adaptations in history.

Nearly every scene feels like it jumps from the comic pages thanks to Wright's signature style. The story is about the titular Scott as he fights the exes of his new girlfriend in order to be with her. Evans is at his most over the top and steals the show as Lucas Lee, the movie star ex who Scott must battle.

Avengers: Endgame (2019) - 3.93

The entire MCU, which began in 2008, had been building up to this film. Avengers: Endgame marked the culmination of over a decade of storytelling as the Infinity Saga came to a conclusion. The events of the previous Avengers movie saw the heroes lose to Thanos and this was their attempt at righting that wrong.

Chris Evans gets some of the best material to work with here as one of the surviving heroes. He gets to showcase the emotional weight of the loss, the heartfelt reunion with Peggy, and he has arguably his most heroic moment when he wields Mjölnir in the fight against Thanos.

Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - 3.99

Stream On Disney+

Before finally winning out, the team did have to lose, and Avengers: Infinity War saw them do just that. While it doesn't have a happy ending, this movie is filled with action from start to finish, never letting up and keeping the crowd excited throughout.

Although it has a better rating than Avengers: Endgame by a slight margin, this isn't as much of a standout film for Chris Evans. He doesn't get a ton of screen time here with the focus being given to other characters. Still, he's part of some great moments and Evans is great as always.

Knives Out (2019) - 4.05

Rent On Vudu

After watching Chris Evans play the ultimate good guy for nearly a decade in the MCU, it was interesting that his first major role away from it saw him as a bad guy. In Knives Out, he plays Hugh Ransom Drysdale, the grandson of a wealthy man who dies and has his murder investigated by the charismatic Benoit Blanc.

Reviews were sparkling for Knives Out and it was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars. While the writing is sharp, the acting is great, and the twists are engaging, many Evans fans were just excited to watch him portray a total jerk.
