Choose or Die is a horror-thriller movie now streaming on Netflix, and it features some familiar faces that are easily recognizable, but it also welcomes some new talents – and here’s who plays who in Choose or Die. Netflix’s catalogue of original content, both TV shows and movies, keeps expanding every week with titles for all ages and tastes, and the streaming giant has built an interesting collection of horror titles in recent years. Adding to it is Choose or Die (originally titled CURS>R) directed by Toby Meakins in his feature directorial debut and written by Simon Allen.

Choose or Die follows a broke college student who finds an obscure survival computer game from the 1980s called CURS>R, which has an unclaimed prize attached to it of $100,000, which could be of great help for her and her mother. Desperate for money, she takes on the challenge of playing the seemingly harmless game in order to claim the prize, but the game escalates quickly, and after a series of unexpectedly terrifying moments, she realizes she’s no longer playing for the money but for her own life, and those closest to her are also in great danger.

Playing the game is simple: it gives the player two options and they have to choose one quickly, but what makes it terrifying is that the choices are based on the surroundings of the player. Choose or Die has a dose of nostalgia through the CURS>R video game and also through its cast, as it counts on the talents of a horror icon from the 1980s, while also serving as the introduction of new talents. Here’s the cast and character guide for Netflix’s Choose or Die.

Iola Evans as Kayla

Choose or Die Iola Davis Kayla

Iola Evans plays Kayla, a college dropout and wannabe coder working an unsatisfying job that doesn’t pay her enough to support herself and her mother. One day, Kayla finds a bootleg cassette of the CURS>R video game and learns about its unclaimed prize, and seeing a way out through it, decides to play the game. Unfortunately, Kayla quickly learns that the prize might not be worth the dangers and terrors that the video game unleashes. Iola Evans has played minor roles in TV shows like Carnival Row (Ryma) and The 100 (Callie), and Choose or Die is her film debut.

Asa Butterfield as Isaac

Asa Butterfield in Choose or Die

Asa Butterfield plays Isaac, Kayla’s friend who is working on designing a modern video game in which the lead character is (unsurprisingly) based on Kayla. Until his big break arrives, Isaac makes a living by selling retro computers which Kayla helps refurbish, and it’s at his place where Kayla comes across the CURS>R cassette. Sadly for Isaac, he’s soon dragged into the game and realizes it’s a lot more dangerous than it seemed. Asa Butterfield gained worldwide recognition when he played Bruno in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, and some of his most notable works are Hugo (Hugo Cabret), Ender’s Game (Ender Wiggin), Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Jake Portman), and the Netflix TV series Sex Education, where he plays Otis Milburn.

Eddie Marsan as Hal

Choose or Die Hal

Eddie Marsan plays Hal, a man who played CURS>R and quickly witnessed the horrible consequences of playing the obscure game – however, he found a way out of it, but that also came with a huge prize. Eddie Marsan’s most notable roles are Killoran in Gangs of New York, Brian Etheridge in V for Vendetta, Brownway in Mission: Impossible III, Josef Fischer in The Illusionist, Inspector Lestrade in Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Peter Page in The World’s End, and Terry Donovan in the TV series Ray Donovan.
