Disney's Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers movie earns positive early reviews. Chip and Dale are chipmunks that Disney first introduced in 1943's Private Pluto. They were given their own animated show, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, in 1989, which saw the chipmunks heading a detective agency. Chip and Dale were joined by their trusted team, Gadget Hackwrench, Monterey Jack, and Zipper, who helped them solve mysteries in each episode. The series ended in 1990, and now Chip and Dale are poised to make a comeback in a feature film.

The new film, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, is a continuation of the animated series that enters into meta territory, featuring the chipmunks coexisting with people in the real world. Directed by Akiva Schaffer of The Lonely Island, the Chip 'n Dale reboot looks to draw inspiration from films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which also saw anthropomorphized cartoons in the real world. The plot sees Chip (John Mulaney) working as an insurance salesman, with Dale (Andy Samberg) still interacting with fans at conventions, when they are forced to reunite as cartoon characters go missing.
