Netflix releases the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina TV show trailer and poster, teasing the Archie Comics horror/drama adaptation about a young witch. After the successful debut of live-action television series Riverdale on The CW in early 2017, Archie Comics struck a deal with Warner Bros. Television for future TV adaptations. Later in 2017, it was reported that a new take on the property of Sabrina the Teenage Witch was in the works at The CW from Riverdale showrunner and Archie Comics CCO Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
However, the project now known as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina moved to Netflix with a two-season order and more information about it was revealed. The show is based on the Archie Comics series of the same name, created by Aguirre-Sacasa and Robert Hack in 2014 as a spinoff from Afterlife with Archie, which follows the teenaged witch Sabrina Spellman in the 1960s. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina TV show has been compared to the likes Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist, as it's expected to tell the titular character's coming-of-age story tinged with horror, the occult and - of course - witchcraft. Now, after releasing the teaser poster for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina in June, Netflix officially debuts the first footage from the series.
Netflix released the first trailer and a new poster for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which can be seen below. Kiernan Shipka stars in the series as Sabrina Spellman. She's joined by Lucy Davis and Miranda Otto as Sabrina's Aunts Hilda and Zelda, respectively; Ross Lynch as Sabrina's boyfriend Harvey Kinkle; Jaz Sinclair as Sabrina's best friend Rosalind Walker; Chance Perdomo as Sabrina's cousin Ambrose; Michelle Gomez as Sabrina's mentor Mary Wardell, who's possessed and becomes Madam Satan; and Richard Coyle as Father Blackwood.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina trailer certainly looks like the creepy, supernatural drama those close to the production have promised fans. Much of the trailer is made up of quick-cut scenes, showcasing various settings around town, including the Spellman Mortuary and Cerberus Books. Further, the trailer teases the 16th birthday of Sabrina, which marks an important time in a young witch's life. But the celebrations aren't all fun and games, with multiple shots of various rituals and the demon that appears behind Sabrina in the show's poster.
Altogether, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has a similar vibe to Riverdale, insofar as viewers can tell they're created by the same team with the same tendency to blend genres in a teen drama. In the case of Sabrina, there's evidently going to be plenty of horror and supernatural elements, which will help to set it apart from Riverdale. But unfortunately, those intrigued by the trailer for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will have to wait a little more than a month before the show debuts on Netflix.
