There's good news for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina fans, as creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa reveals season 5 of the show will still happen in a way. The Netflix series is part of the world of Archie Comics, which is also the basis for the CW series Riverdale and spinoff Katy Keene. The show stars Mad Men alum Kiernan Shipka and takes a darker approach than Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which aired in the '90s and early 2000s. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been generally well-received by both critics and fans of the comic book series it's based on.

Unfortunately, this has been a bad month for Archie Comics properties. Last week, The CW opted to cancel Katy Keene after one season, with Netflix following suit with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina only a couple days ago. So far, the show has aired three "parts," technically constituting a season and a half. Part 4 will debut later in 2020 and will be made up of eight episodes. The cancellation is a little surprising, considering the popularity of the show and its connection to Riverdale. However, Netflix shows rarely make it past season 4 or 5, with the streamer often axing series before they go downhill creatively or decline in ratings.

Luckily, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina viewers have something else to look forward to in addition to the final episodes later this year. Aguirre-Sacasa shared a message on Twitter earlier this week, thanking fans for their support. He also teased part 5 of the show would have featured a crossover with Riverdale, but reassured viewers the story will be continued in comic book form. Additionally, Aguirre-Sacasa included some art confirming the news. Check it out below:

Aguirre-Sacasa's news should help ease the disappointment of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina viewers. Though a comic book isn't the same as a true season 5, it is a good way to continue the story. There's a reason the show came to be in the first place, which is due to the popularity of the comics. Also, as Riverdale is still alive and kicking on The CW, it's not as though fans are completely saying goodbye to seeing that world in live-action.

Comic book continuations and companion pieces are becoming more common in the world of TV. This is especially the case for shows based on comics properties. For example, the Arrowverse put out a comic book tie-in for its massive Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover earlier this year. The Walking Dead's Negan also recently received his own one-shot comic, no doubt bolstered by the character's success on the series. All told, comic books are a great way to expand the life of a TV show, which is hopefully what happens with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 5.
