Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 4 introduced the Trinket Man, but who is he and is he actually God? The character was first introduced in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 4, episode 4, arriving at Father Faustus Blackwood’s newly instated Pilgrims of the Night Church. As soon as he arrived, the Trinket Man offered a variety of dangerous occult items, many of which were very ancient and powerful. However, he never reveals where he managed to acquire any of the items in tow or why he so happened to be passing through Greendale, of all places, only that the Trinket Man knew how to use each of the items in incredible detail.

The Trinket Man (James Urbaniak) looked like a human man, with a mustache, wiry-looking glasses, and a suit that suggested he was indeed nothing more than the salesman he claimed to be. His arrival presented Father Blackwood (Richard Coyle) with a few supernatural objects, including the Stone of Omphalos, which was swallowed by the Titan Kronos to create the center of the universe itself. However, Father Blackwood decides to steal the Imp of the Perverse to warp reality in his image. In the series finale, Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) is debating whether to use the Imp of the Perverse to stop the Void and save the cosmos, only to be handed something much more powerful by the Trinket Man: Pandora’s Box.

But, who really is the Trinket Man and why does he have these items? The series doesn’t provide a backstory and he is mum on the details regarding his identity. The fact that he has such mythological and legendary items like Pandora’s Box suggests that he is an ancient being himself. Considering that the eldritch terrors are stated to be “older than the oldest gods” and also more powerful than Lucifer, it’s possible that the Trinket Man is an entity who predates them. What’s more, the eldritch terrors draw inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft’s stories, so it’s possible that he is actually Nyarlethotep, a character who is depicted as a gatekeeper and is also known as the Crawling Chaos. With a name like that, Nyarlethotep obviously enjoys creating supernatural chaos and destruction wherever he goes and the same can be said of the Trinket Man in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Conversely, the fact that he has the Omphalos Stone, which he found while visiting the ancient ruins of Greece, implies that he could be Kronos, the king of the Titans and the legendary god from Ancient Greek myth. Kronos was the god of time and the ruler of the cosmos before his son Zeus defeated him and locked him away. Since Kronos wants to rule the cosmos and not destroy it, there’s a chance that he decided to disguise himself as the Trinket Man to help Sabrina and the witches coven in defeating the eldritch terrors. Or, like most gods in Greek mythology, he wanted to create chaos for humans for sheer entertainment.

Of course, it’s also possible that the Trinket Man is actually God (aka, the False God). The witches of Greendale worshipped Lucifer before moving on to praise Hecate, but God is always excluded. When Metatron, the archangel, arrives to reunite the two versions of Sabrina, they state that the False God knows about the coming of the eldritch terrors and would likely get involved in the cosmic events somehow. In that vein, there’s a chance that God himself arrived in Greendale to meddle, coming between the witches and the eldritch terrors. What he tried to accomplish beyond being nosy is anyone’s guess, but the fact that angels clearly exist in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina means that it was only a matter of time before God showed up, too.
