What to Expect From Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 1

Season 2 of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has already begun filming, with streaming platform Netflix clearly confident in the dark supernatural' series potential. Set down the road from The CW's Archie Comics adaptation, Riverdale, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 1 chronicled the struggles of young Sabrina Spellman, an orphan who was born half-mortal, half-witch. Her coven, the Church of Night, is determined to have Sabrina sign the Dark Lord's book, become a full-fledged witch, and leave the mortal world behind. However, Sabrina doesn't want to abandon her friends or her boyfriend, Harvey.

With overwhelmingly positive reviews and a passionate fanbase already starting to build, it's clear that there's an appetite for Sabrina's further adventures - especially since the show's season 1 finale is littered with set-up for season 2 storylines. From Sabrina's dramatic decision to sign Satan's book in exchange for the power to save her friends, to the mystery of Doctor Cerberus' true nature, it seems like the story has only just begun.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a rather unpredictable show. Often in season 1 it seems like storylines are on the brink of having a happy ending, when suddenly everything goes disastrously wrong. But based on the end of season 1, we do have some idea of what to expect next.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2 Has Begun Filming

Season 2 of The Chilling Adventures of Adventure was green lit before the first season was even released, and Sabrina and her friends weren't given much time to relax between seasons. Lead actress Kiernan Shipka revealed that they "went straight into the second season from the first," and that this was, "just a great opportunity to keep the momentum going." Filming is taking place in Vancouver, and is expected to wrap in December 2018.

When Will The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2 Release?

Though no release date has yet been announced, it's possible that Netflix will hold off on releasing the second season of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina until October 2019, to capitalize on the spooky Halloween season once again. To look at a comparable show, Stranger Things season 3 began filming in April 2018, is expected to finish filming in November, and will release next summer, so Sabrina is on track to release around the same time next year, in either summer or fall 2019.

What Is The Story of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2?

At the end of season 1, Sabrina has signed Satan's book and become a full-fledged witch and full-time student at the Academy of Unseen Arts - even changing her hair and joining up with the Weird Sisters. Meanwhile, Aunt Zelda spirited away Father Blackwood's newborn daughter, fearing he would kill her to protect his male heir's destiny. Aunt Hilda kissed Doctor Cerberus and decided to move out of her and Zelda's bedroom, but as he left the Spellman mortuary his eyes flashed yellow. Ambrose has somehow found himself drawn into Father Blackwood's secret inner circle of warlocks, who are planning to make the Church of Night more rigidly patriarchal. As far Sabrina's mortal friends - Harvey broke up with her after finding out her secret, while Roz and Susie have been left wondering if Sabrina really is gone for good.

That's a lot of set-up for season 2 - particularly now that Ms. Wardwell a.k.a. Madam Satan a.k.a. Lilith a.k.a. the Mother of Demons has started to suspect that Sabrina might usurp her planned promotion to the role of Queen of Hell. Lilith was secretly manipulating Sabrina on behalf of the Dark Lord in season 1, but season 2 may well see her enacting her own agenda. As for Sabrina's plan to defeat the Dark Lord himself... well, that's not going to be easy now that she's under a binding contract to be his servant.
