Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina came to a close following season 4, but not without bringing back some of the most iconic iterations of the Archie Comics character, including 1962's Sabrina Spellman. Creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa introduced his version of the teenage witch in 2018 through the major streaming platform Netflix. While longtime fans of the Sabrina The Teenage Witch were used to a much tamer character, the latest Sabrina Spellman was the infernal daughter of the Dark Lord (Luke Cook). Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina concluded in a major way by featuring a cameo from the iconic comic character.

Kiernan Shipka portrays Sabrina Spellman/Morningstar in season 4. She follows in the footsteps of Melissa Joan Hart, who famously took on the role for seven seasons that aired between 1996 and 2003. Both series begin on the day of Sabrina's sixteenth birthday when her magical powers begin to manifest. In Aguirre-Sacasa's version, the aunties are portrayed by Lucy Davis (Hilda Spellman) and Miranda Otto (Zelda Spellman). As season 4 progresses and the Eldritch Terrors grow more severe, "Chapter Thirty-Five: The Endless" brought back the 90s sitcom's Caroline Rhea (Hilda Spellman) and Beth Broderick (Zelda Spellman), as well as the original Salem Saberhagen puppet voiced by Luke Cook. While three-fourths of the cast were accounted for, Melissa Joan Hart did not make a cameo or reprise her role as Sabrina. This is likely due to her less than positive views on the Netflix series' use of satanic imagery.

Before Rhea and Broderick reprise their roles, however, the original 1962 Sabrina makes a brief cameo at the end of "Chapter Thirty: The Uninvited." After an Eldritch Terror of Lovecraftian lore ruins the large and extravagant wedding of Hilda and Dr. Cerberus (Alessandro Juliani), the bride requests a small ceremony where everyone dresses as their favorite horror character. Hilda dresses as the Bride of Frankenstein, Dr. Cerberus as Dracula, Zelda as a witch, Mambo Marie (Skye Marshall) as a Day of the Dead skull, Ambrose (Chance Perdomo) as 1985's Teen Wolf, and Sabrina as her 1962 character.

Sabrina Spellman Archie Comics Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

In 1962, Sabrina Spellman first appeared in Archie's Madhouse for their October issue. Initially, the character was intended to be a one-shot, but she was so well-received by fans that it led the creators to include her in several more issues. The first official Sabrina The Teenage Witch comic came to being in 1971. From then on, she had her own series for several decades, made occasional appearances in other Archie Comics, transformed into an animated show, and then an American sitcom. No matter how far Sabrina has come from her 1962 debut, her outfit and iconic introduction have become a major point of reverence for other iterations of the character.

Following the success of Aguirre-Sacasa's CW series Riverdale, it prompted him to create Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina. Several months prior to the release of season 4, Netflix canceled Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but its creator intends to continue Sabrina's story in an upcoming comic book. It appears as though Sabrina is returning to her roots, and it wasn't without warning. Kiernan Shipka's character donned the original comic book Sabrina's classic 1960s high-waisted red pants, a white sweater, and a blond bob accompanied by a thick headband. The costume for Hilda's wedding was actually teased on November 1, 2019 when the official Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina Twitter accounted tweeted an image of Shipka next to the original Sabrina.

At that point, they had no idea that the series would come to a close following season 4. It may have been sheer coincidence that Shipka would dress as 1962 Sabrina, but it became an incredible cameo that references the continuation of her story through a comic book series. With the original aunties and Sabrina present, The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina showcased the iconic iterations of the beloved character as the series came to an end with no official announcement for season 5 in sight.
