Chucky and his son Glen were the subjects of a Texas Amber Alert message. The homicidal “friend to the end” was introduced back in 1988 in the first Child’s Play film, directed by Tom Holland (not THAT Tom Holland) and created by writer Don Mancini. It starred Catherine Hicks (7th Heaven) as Karen Barclay, a single mother who buys her son, Andy, played by Alex Vincent, a Good Guy doll for his birthday. Unbeknownst to them, the toy, which is already the size of a human child, is possessed by the soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray, aka “Chucky,” played by Brad Dourif (Halloween). Seeking to take over the body of Andy and escape being forever trapped in the form of a doll, Chucky carves up anyone who gets in his way.

The wildly popular franchise went on to generate six sequels over the next three decades with Dourif voicing the murderous plaything throughout. A Child’s Play reboot launched in 2019 starring Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta), and Mark Hamill (Star Wars) taking over as the voice of Chucky. Maintaining the same premise as the original, albeit with an updated look, origin, and backstory for Chucky, the reboot was only moderately successful. A return to the original formula was called for in the upcoming Chucky tv series for SyFy and USA Network, bringing back creator Mancini to write and executive produce, and Dourif once more voicing the titular character. In the upcoming TV series, a vintage Chucky doll is discovered at a small-town yard sale, unleashing chaos and murder on the community.

Recently, Chucky managed to cause some (minor) real-life chaos in towns across the Lone Star State when an Amber Alert, used to report missing or abducted children, was mysteriously sent out by the Texas Alert System, naming Chucky as the suspect, according to Deadline. Chucky, who is listed as 28 years old, 3'1", 16 pounds, and wearing "blue denim overalls with multi-colored striped long sleeve shirt wielding a huge kitchen knife," was alleged to have abducted his son, Glen, who is listed as 5 years old, 2'3", 6 pounds, and wearing a "blue shirt with black collar," from Henderson, Texas, on January 28. The false email alert went out three times before the Texas Alert System caught wise to the situation. They issued an apology for the bizarre event, blaming the mishap on a “test malfunction.”

Introduced in the film Seed of Chucky in 2004, Glen was voiced by Billy Boyd (Lord of the Ring: The Fellowship of the Ring) and is actually the son of Chucky and another evil living doll Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) who was introduced in the previous film, Bride of Chucky. Glen struggles with his parentage, resisting the murder that his parents seem to delight in.

Ironically enough, the Amber Alert system malfunction resembles the plot and origin for the Child’s Play remake. In the 2019 picture, a disgruntled employee tampers with the doll’s A.I. safety protocols, turning what’s designed to be a child’s companion and “best friend” into a havoc-wreaking murder-bot. Fortunately, however, the incident in Texas involving the toddler-sized terror Chucky didn’t turn out as badly as they typically do in the Child’s Play films.
