Chicago PD season 10 casting news may have spoiled season 9's big cliffhanger. NBC's One Chicago franchise is back in production for its anticipated September 2022 return. That includes Chicago PD, which will begin its monumental 10th year when it debuts brand new episodes. Given the show's dramatic season 9 finale, expect Intelligence and Hank Voight to still be reeling from the death of CI, Anna Avalos.
Since the Chicago PD season 9 finale was focused on Intelligence's mission taking down Los Temidos, it left some long-gestating plotlines unresolved, including Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek's situation. The show's on-and-off couple has been trying to do the right thing for Makayla, Kim's adopted daughter, but that has also forced them to fully re-examine their relationship and decide what the future holds for them. Towards the end of Chicago PD season 9, Ruzek proposes a new set-up for their quasi-family. He buys Kim and Makayla a house - his childhood home, no less. While he isn't insisting on living with them, it's still a big step to make, and with no answer from Kim yet, fans of the series have been waiting for what's next for the pair.
Fortunately, it doesn't seem like viewers will have to wait until September to find out. A new casting call (via @burzekpd) for Chicago PD season 10 reveals that the show is filming a court scene and is looking for extras who could fill up the set. Couple that with an image of Patrick Flueger dressed up formally, and it appears like he will be heading to a hearing, potentially regarding the adoption of Makayla. When asked about this dangling question, Flueger properly set fans' expectations, saying that the Ruzek and Burgess' situation won't be resolved until Chicago PD season 10. That's going to be the case, but if the pair are indeed deciding to live under one roof again, NBC is making sure that it will be worth all the wait. For years, despite their clear love for each other, the couple has maintained a platonic relationship. This is incredibly frustrating for those who are still holding out hope that they eventually get back together, because while Chicago PD is not totally closing the door on the possibility, it also isn't doing anything to actively reunite them.
If Chicago PD season 10 is finally bringing them back together, it will be interesting to see if this means it's going to be for the long haul. With Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton now married, Ruzek and Burgess can eventually follow suit. They have been down this road before, but the existence of Makayla in their lives can be what ultimately motivates them to tie the knot.
