What happened to Chicago Fire fan-favorite Gabby after she left the hit series? Dick Wolf is a legendary producer in TV, and after starting out as a writer on hit shows like Miami Vice, in 1990 he created crime series Law & Order. The show's format was simple but unique, with one half typically focusing on the cops investigating a crime while the latter chunk would follow the prosecution side of things. Law & Order ran for 20 seasons in total, but the franchise was far from over when it ended in 2010.

The show spawned an even more popular spinoff with Law & Order: Special Victim's Unit, with other offshoots including Criminal Intent and True Crime. It's not Wolf's only major TV franchise either, with the Chicago series kicking off in 2012 with Chicago Fire. As the title implies, the series revolves around the firefighters of the Chicago Fire Department, and not only has the show run for eight seasons, it's already been renewed for at least three more. Naturally, its success led to more shows, including Chicago P.D. and Chicago Justice.

Chicago Fire has won a lot of fans and features a great cast of characters. This includes Gabriela "Gabby" Dawson, played by Monica Raymund. Gabby started the series as a paramedic before training to become a firefighter. She later fell for colleague Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer), with their romance and eventual marriage being a major part of Chicago Fire over the years. Monica Raymund decided when her contract expired at the end of season six she wanted to move on to other projects, and Gabby departed during season 7.

Gabby's Chicago Fire exit came after a long line of heartache for her and Casey when they try and failed to have a baby numerous times. Gabby left Chicago in season 7 for a humanitarian job in Puerto Rico, but when she tries and fails to talk Casey into leaving with her, they end up divorcing. Gabby returned for one episode in season 8 to meet Casey and the rest of the team, and the show seems to be leaving some hope the couple - dubbed "Dawsey" by fans - could still end up together.

Gabby returned to Puerto Rico by the end of the episode and with Monica Raymund currently fronting Starz show Hightown, its doubtful she'll be returning fulltime to Chicago Fire in the near future. That said, with the series renewed until at least season 11, Dawsey fans should be reassured there's still plenty of time for a reunion.
