From a life-changing development for Brett to a run-in with the law for Carver, Chicago Fire season 11, episode 20 set the stage for the final two episodes with plenty of surprising twists.
5 Brett Forms A Connection With An Abandoned Baby
At the beginning of Chicago Fire season 11, episode 20, Brett and Violet answered an emergency call about a "woman down." It turned out to be a 16-year-old girl who had just given birth to her baby. However, the baby girl was born "en caul," meaning that the newborn's amniotic sac remained intact. The paramedics ripped the sac open and kept the baby alive before getting her to the hospital. There were some complications since the previous paramedics — the PIC, Adler, and her partner, Bessell — forgot to restock the OB kit in the ambulance.
Given Brett's backstory (her biological mother was 16 years old when she had her and gave her up for adoption), she was shaken by the ordeal and furious at Adler. While talking with Boden, Brett even threatened to quit in Chicago Fire. Thankfully, the baby survived, and when Brett and Violet visited her at the hospital, Brett's caring instincts took over. She was immediately smitten by the newborn. The baby's mother, Amber, noticed this and decided to drop her child off at Firehouse 51's baby safe box. Although the paramedics had to return the baby to the hospital before she gets turned over to foster care, it's unlikely that she won't have to wait to find a new home. Chicago Fire season 11, episode 20 is clearly foreshadowing Brett eventually adopting the abandoned child.
4 A Victim Becomes Obsessed With Stella
Elsewhere in Chicago Fire season 11, episode 20, Firehouse 51 saved a homeless man named Shep, who was trapped underneath a truck. Shep claimed that he was running from some boys who wanted to rob him when he ran into the middle of the road, and the vehicle swerved and fell on top of him. By some miracle, Shep walked away with only minor injuries, but he also became obsessed with Stella. The lieutenant gave Shep a pep talk during the rescue, and he was convinced that she loved him.
Later at the firehouse, Shep stopped by to give Stella a bracelet he made. But when she walked away, he mistakenly thought Carver was involved with Stella. Shep told the firefighter that "Stella didn't love him." Carver was immediately alarmed by this exchange, so he volunteered to return Shep's hat. However, one of the workers at the homeless shelter informed him that they had kicked Shep out after he stopped taking his medication and physically assaulted a female resident. This is bad news for Stella, and following the ending of Chicago Fire season 11, episode 20, fans have not seen the last of Shep. He will undoubtedly return and try to hurt Stella after she turns him down.
3 Carver Gets Arrested
During the final scene of Chicago Fire season 11, episode 20, Carver ran to help Stella when Shep unexpectedly showed up at her doorstep. Of course, she didn't let him into her apartment building, but Shep wouldn't leave. When Carver arrived, it looked like Shep was about to take out a weapon and attack him. So Carver defended himself and fought back, but that's not what the police saw when they arrived a few moments later. They assumed Carver had attacked Shep, especially since the man was calling out for help and pointing the finger at the firefighter. The cops arrested Carver, despite Stella pleading for them not to.
The preview for Chicago Fire season 11, episode 21 informs viewers that they are charging Carver with felony assault, meaning he might face jail time. He will get suspended from Firehouse 51 for his arrest, but Stella will do whatever it takes to correct the situation for Carver. But in the meantime, Shep is walking free, meaning that both Stella and Carver are still in danger as the show heads into its final two episodes.
2 Kylie Passes The Firefighter Exam
On a more lighthearted note, Kylie took the firefighter exam in Chicago Fire season 11, episode 20. After joining the Girls on Fire program, she is finally on her way to becoming a firefighter. Kylie passed the physical portion of the test with flying colors, but when it came to the written part, she was a bundle of nerves. Kylie expressed her worries to Stella and Boden, but they both cheered her on and gave her their support regardless of the outcome.
Her worries were all for nothing, though, because during a Girls on Fire drill, Boden announced that Kylie had passed the exam. Everyone cheered for her, and Stella even allowed an 18-and-over party at Molly's to celebrate Kylie. She is one step closer to becoming a firefighter, and hopefully, by the end of Chicago Fire season 11, Kylie will get to join the ranks of Firehouse 51. They need more women at the firehouse, after all.
1 Gallo's Aunt Is Recovering Well
A major focal point of the past couple of episodes of Chicago Fire season 11 was Gallo's aunt's return. His aunt, Lacey, is an addict who abandoned Gallo after he lost his entire family in a fire when he was a child. Gallo was, of course, tentative about letting Lacey back into his life. But after she relapsed and got into a car accident, his hero instincts kicked in, and he was determined to help his aunt recover.
Chicago Fire season 11, episode 20 didn't focus too much on Gallo and Lacey, but the firefighter did inform Ritter that his aunt was recovering well without the need for any major medication. It was a throwaway line, and the show will undoubtedly circle back to this story before the season ends. The outlook is currently good for Gallo and Lacey, but knowing Chicago Fire, it wouldn't be surprising if Lacey relapsed during her stay with Gallo since this show thrives on drama.
