Tom Holland's Cherry is labeled as a junkie and more in these new and improved character posters. Holland's latest collaboration with his Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo will take a noted step away from the comic book universe that brought them together. In Cherry, an adaptation of Nico Walker's novel of the same name, Holland plays a PTSD-riddled army vet who turns to bank robbing to support his opioid addiction upon returning home. Described as multiple movies in one, Cherry looks to catapult Holland, who is best known for playing Spider-Man in the MCU, into brand new territory.

Ahead of Cherry's Apple TV+ debut in March 2021 (and its limited theatrical run in February), the film has steadily begun to mount a promotional campaign. So far, fans have only been granted images of Holland and co-star Ciara Bravo in action, as a trailer has yet to be revealed. Just last week, the first poster for Cherry made its way onto the internet, though the real topic of conversation quickly became the misprinted poster that emerged first. Nevertheless, Cherry has recovered from that bit of confusing press and is moving forward with its awards campaign.

As noted by aspiring filmmaker Eric Cameron (who previously worked with the Russos and Holland in the MCU), Cherry posters have sprung up across New York City. Each one puts a spotlight on a different facet of Holland's character, like student, soldier, and junkie. He's also singled out as a lover and thief. Additionally, each poster features a category for awards contention, such as Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and, of course, Best Actor for Holland.

Though little of Cherry has been revealed, it's clear Apple is pinning a lot of its 2020-2021 awards hopes upon it. With its prestige premise and big names, Cherry certainly feels like the kind of movie that would score some awards attention. Of course, its prospects won't truly become clear until the movie itself is released, though the hype already makes a compelling case.

The most effective thing these posters do is remind audiences of just how many labels Holland will have to shoulder. As Cherry, Holland is said to undergo an intense journey as he progresses from regular student to a traumatized solider to an addicted criminal. This will be a very different role for Holland than what his fans are used to, and it'll be interesting to see if he can pull it off. There's no question that Holland is a talented actor, and Cherry just might be the movie to score him some serious awards.
