Lately, more and more fan-favorite videogames have been remade and ushered into the spotlight once again, such as Sonic Colors Ultimate and Demon's Souls. These remakes allow newer generations of gamers to experience some beloved gems in a way that meets today's modern standards, making the games as entertaining to play as the originals were, by enhancing the graphics, adding new features, improving accessibility, and so on.

Most remakes are handled with great care and stay true to the originals, even giving some games a second chance. Countless lovable games have been remade and re-experienced over the years, but some of the most memorable and cheesy ones have yet to receive the treatment they deserve. These games are worthy of a remake based on their popularity, memorable stories, their need for improvements, and their tasteful, questionable, lasting uniqueness.

Link and Zelda in Link Faces of Evil

This unusual Zelda game starts in peaceful Hyrule when a bored Link itching for adventure is greeted by a wizard named Gwonom on a flying carpet. Gwonom flies Link to the island of Koridai, where Ganon has taken over using the Faces Of Evil, which Link must conquer to defeat Ganon and free Koridai.

This game is deserving of a remake, as its plot alone would have been amazing if not for a few laughable fantasy tropes. Poorly animated cutscenes, mediocre voice acting, and terrible controls (unresponsive and slow) accompany the story, making the game hilarious and memorable for all the wrong reasons. A remake could update the animations, acting, and controls for a healthier and more enjoyable experience.

Sonic Heroes

Fast gameplay and a charming story help make Sonic Heroes a memorable entry in the Sonic franchise. The player must switch between iconic characters with unique abilities to progress, and ultimately defeat Dr. Eggman.

Unfortunately, the game's tedious controls (which were frustrating and unorthodox) and camera (which was too sensitive and exceedingly difficult to control) often made it hard to enjoy. A remake would be great as it would fix the problems that aggravated players, making it a more enjoyable experience. With the fan base constantly divided on Sonic games, this remake would unite returning and newer players, as a remastered version with improved graphics, voice acting, controls and camera would allow fans to truly enjoy this charming entry to the Sonic series.

Um Jammer Lammy

A spin-off to the popular PaRappa The Rappa rhythm games, this fast-paced game focuses on guitarist Lammy and her journey to get to her band's first concert on time. The player has to play 6 joyful rhythm-based minigames to beat the main game.

This is the only game in the PaRappa The Rappa series that hasn't been remastered, making it the perfect candidate for a remake. The fun, simplistic gameplay combined with a whimsical story makes this cheesy game very memorable amongst fans. A remake would allow younger gamers to experience this joy on modern consoles, and with the improved quality, it deserves.

Tom And Jerry In War Of The Whiskers

In classic Tom and Jerry style, the objective of this fighting game is to battle with a plethora of beloved characters in distinctive destructible 3D maps, featuring the same, fun, over-the-top slapstick violence fans adore from the show, even gaining its own tier lists.

With other cartoon fighting games like Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and MultiVersus on the rise, it's the perfect time for War of the Whiskers to return. Its comical and unique fighting style, coupled with the destructive maps would be a blast to see remastered on modern consoles, and tonnes of fun to play online with friends.

Shrek Super Slam (Console Version)

This melee-form fighting game saw characters from the Shrek franchise brawling it out across Shrek-themed arenas. The game has gained a cult following, even developing a competitive player base.

Shrek Super Slam would be a great game to receive the remake treatment due to an undying fan base, who have designed mods that allow online tournaments to be played. A remake would give fans an updated character roster, better controls, and move-sets, as well as graphics that meet today's standards, improving and revamping the game without losing the lovable cheesiness of battling with Shrek characters. Furthermore, a proper online mode could be created to give returning and new fans a place to officially battle, a feature bound to bring the game back into the spotlight.

Crazy Taxi

Originally an arcade game, Crazy Taxi's main premise is simply driving passengers in a taxi to their locations as quickly as possible, and collecting money. Although basic, this game assembled a hugely positive fan base, and the game is generally loved.

A remake of this fast-paced racing game is already being considered and would be great as it would open up the outrageously hectic world of Crazy Taxi to many new players, and would be chaotic fun to play online, racing with or against friends. Updated graphics, new missions, and improved controls could help bring Crazy Taxi back into the public spotlight like many other retro games, shaking up the rather mundane racing genre.

Darkened Skye

This incredibly strange game focuses on a young woman named Skye living in a fantasy world, who can perform magic using Skittles (yes, the candy!). Skye must use these Skittles to defeat the Lord of Darkness, Necroth.

Although it has a ridiculously hilarious premise, the game is surprisingly entertaining and quite funny, holding the workings of a potentially fantastic game. A remake could bring out this potential, improving the criticized combat system yet keeping the creatively cheesy story, allowing newer gamers to experience the game's blissful joy. It would easily stand out from the crowd, and be praised now more than ever due to the influx of stranger concepts in modern pop culture.

Gex: Enter The Gecko

This platformer follows the title character, a television-obsessed gecko, who must traverse the Media Dimension to fight the series' big bad, Rez. Gex constantly makes references to popular 1980s and 1990s culture, a feature that adds to the game's lovable cheesy nature.

Gex was originally intended to be a mascot character alongside Sonic and Mario but didn't catch on, so a remake would allow newer generations of gamers to experience the Gex series in the same modern way we experience Mario and Sonic games. Furthermore, a remastered Gex game could dive into the rich pool of pop culture that modern-day gamers are fond of, which would reach new players and create a fun gaming experience that matches modern-day games.

The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion

The arena in Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion

The fourth entry in the iconic Elder Scrolls series, Oblivion was seen as one of the most innovative games of its time, incorporating the Radiant AI system, which allowed more complex, fully voiced NPCs that made choices and behaved uniquely.

Oblivion hasn't aged well, with most fans viewing the game as comedic and cheesy due to its bad voice acting and strange NPCs, so a remake could help it gain the respect it deserves, as these features are now commonplace amongst most modern games. A remake would also open up the game to whole new generations of gamers, who could experience the game as it was originally supposed to be. Furthermore, a remake would help make the Oblivion experience a more serious one, giving it a more serious tone as it was originally intended to have, with better voice acting, graphics, improved gameplay, and NPCs, along with some other great Elder Scrolls games.

Pepsiman

Infamous for its irritatingly repetitive and cheesy theme song, Pepsiman is an action game featuring Pepsi's Japanese superhero mascot, where the player must simply dodge obstacles in Pepsi-themed levels in an overarching quest to deliver a Pepsi.

Despite its cult following, Pepsiman was only released in Japan and only on the original PlayStation, so a very limited number of people have actually played it. A remake would allow players worldwide and across all platforms to finally experience this unusual yet intriguing game. The world needs to experience this odd piece of gaming history firsthand, and a remake with updated visuals, easier controls, and more features would make this game even more enjoyable to play.
