Trigger Warning! This article contains details surrounding a man who was convicted and imprisoned for sexual assault.

Many fans watching Cheer season 2 fell in love with new Navarro cheerleader Maddy Brum and felt like they wanted to learn more about her mysterious father's arrest. Following the rise to fame from Cheer season 1 cast members such as Monica Aldama, Lexi Brumback, Gabi Butler, Morgan Simianer, and La'Darius Marshall, Netflix has now introduced viewers to brand-new reality TV stars not only from Navarro but also from Trinity Valley. One of the standout stars was Maddy.

Over the course of her time on Cheer, Maddy shared many different parts of her life. For instance, she talked about how her father went away when she was just a little girl. Maddy's mom told her for some time that her dad had gone away for work, but Maddy eventually caught up to the fact that he had gone to prison. Specific details regarding Maddy's father weren't shown on Cheer, but she did share just enough information for more details to be found online.

In the earlier episodes of Cheer season 2, Maddy's father was referred to as a man called Barry Brodeur. She talked about feeling frustrated that her dad wanted to manage her social media career and push her to start a clothing line. Alas, Maddy just wanted to be a good cheerleader. In one of the later episodes of season 2, however, Maddy talked about finding an article that explained why her father had been arrested. That particular article was from the Sun Journal and talked about a man called George Brum. This made more sense given their shared last name.

Not that many details were shown on Cheer, but a lot can be learned from this particular story about George Brum's arrest. According to the report, George was arrested in January 2006 when he was only 31 years of age. Maddy talked on the show about being a kid when her father went away. Given that she was born in 2002, Maddy would've been just five years old when George Brum was arrested. The Sun Journal report noted that George was "convicted of r*ping a woman in her apartment" and was "sentenced to prison for a minimum of seven years." However, this sexual assault crime reportedly took place in 2004.

It seems like Maddy doesn't feel ready to further discuss details regarding her father beyond what she has already said on Cheer, so fans should respect her privacy. Nonetheless, there aren't that many details regarding her father's arrest anyway, so not much is known about what really happened. Thankfully, Maddy is now walking away from Cheer as the biggest star of season 2 and will hopefully enjoy the benefits coming with her reality TV stardom.
