Audiences were first introduced to Cheer star Monica Aldama's high-school-sweetheart-turned-husband Chris Aldama during season one of Netflix's hit reality series. The Navarro College coach may be tough as nails when it comes to her squad competing in the NCA National Cheerleading Championship, but the show's viewers are aware that she has a major soft spot when it comes to her husband. Here is everything fans need to know about Cheer coach Monica's husband, Chris.

Chris and Monica were high school sweethearts. They married in January of 1994. The pair divorced in 2006, and Monica has shared that the split was one of the darkest times of her life. She discussed the breakup during Dancing With the Stars as "one of the darkest times of my life." However, after a brief separation, the couple reconciled and remarried a year later. Together, they have two children, Austin (25) and Ally (21). Fans of the popular Netflix docuseries love their commitment to one another and can't get enough of the adorable duo.

Chris was born on November 26, 1970, making him a Sagittarius. Not much is known about his early childhood, but he graduated from Corsicana High School in 1989. He went on to earn his Bachelor's degree from Southwest Texas State University in 1993. Aside from a brief stint after college, the Cheer couple has stayed close to their hometown of Corsicana, Texas. Since 2009, he has been the Director of Probation at the Navarro County Community Supervision and Corrections Department. Prior to that, he served as the chief officer for Ellis County Juvenile Services from 1994 to 2009.

While he is best known for his role as his coach/wife's biggest supporter in Cheer, the show isn't the only spotlight he's been under. Chris has been a Corsicana celebrity for some time. as a guitar player for Courtney Prater & The Sidetracks, a local country-blues band. Fans can find pictures and videos from their gigs at Chris's Instagram @chrisaldama1. See Chris above, second from the left.

It might surprise viewers to know that while Monica is the rock in many of her cheerleaders' lives, it is Chris who she turns to when she is in need of advice. After season one was released, the competitively driven Coach Aldama was subject to her share of criticism. "Most of the press was really good, but a few articles were negative and portrayed me as someone who I'm not at all," she said in an interview with Insider. Dealing with the negativity was overwhelming at times but Chris offered her some words of wisdom. "He told me not to read the negative comments (especially on Instagram) after the show came out." She credits his sage words for keeping her from letting the haters bring her down.

With the new season of Cheer having dropped on January 12, fans are eager to catch up with the 14-time National Champion Bulldog cheerleaders. But they are just as excited to see what Chris has been up to these past two years. There has been much speculation as to what season 2 will hold for audiences, and many hope it will include more focus on their favorite couple.
