There have been many comparisons between the Charmed reboot and the original series, but looking at both shows as a whole, the Vera sisters appear to be stronger than the Halliwell sisters. The Vera sisters are in the early stages of mastering their craft compared to the eight seasons the Halliwells had with the original show, but they have already developed their powers extensively and shown great versatility in using their powers.
In the original Charmed series, the Power of Three’s first incarnation came from Prue, Piper, and Phoebe Halliwell. Unfortunately, Prue died at the end of the third season, and their long-lost half-sister, Paige, stepped in to keep the power of the Charmed Ones alive. Paige is arguably the strongest witch of either Charmed series, particularly due to her half-Whitelighter heritage, but Macy’s backstory of demonic powers in the reboot show could be explored to rival Paige in the end.
Overall, Macy, Mel, and Maggie have the upper hand in starting their journey together and developing the Power of Three from early on. Piper and Phoebe had to cope with the death of their eldest sister as well as the trials of bringing their estranged half-sister into the fold. While the Halliwells gradually grew into their powers, including their introduction to their Whitelighter, Leo, the Vera sisters began at a much faster pace. The range and control of their powers by season 3 are a testament to their abilities and early promise, which makes them the most powerful. However, the Halliwells set the bar for the Vera sisters to grow.
Prue never had the chance to reach the heights of her powers showcased in the original series' season 2 episode “Morality Bites”, and she was only able to utilize astral projection in addition to her telekinetic abilities by the end of season 3. Piper’s powers allowed her to manipulate molecules by slowing them down until they reached a standstill; she was later able to freeze individual objects and learned to vanquish demons by speeding up their molecules and blowing them up. Meanwhile, Phoebe’s powers were telepathically rooted and came in the form of premonitions in early seasons. Her abilities grew as the show went on, including powers of levitation and empathy, supplementing her martial arts training. Then when Paige entered the series, her abilities were staggering and included orbing, telekinetic orbing, healing, cloaking, orb shield, photokinesis, and glamouring.
The Halliwells were a formidable clan of witches, but the Vera sisters more than hold their own. Macy shows excellent promise and control early on in the reboot. In season 2, she develops advanced telekinesis after regaining her stripped aura by drinking pure black amber; her ability to stop a person’s heart alone makes her a formidable opponent. Mel’s powers are rooted in temporal and molecular manipulation, and by the end of season 2, she learns to heat, freeze, and unfreeze water, not to mention the ability to focus her powers on individual objects. Maggie’s abilities as an empath allow her to sense the feelings of others and read minds. She also develops foresight, the ability to project her emotions onto other people, and the power to turn her emotions into a field of energy.
Comparing the powers of both families leaves the Vera sisters with the upper hand, as they have showcased quicker adaptability and development of their powers within the first few seasons. While the knowledge of spellcasting and spellcraft is another side of witchcraft the Halliwell sisters mastered, the Vera sisters, in their third season, have time to grow in these areas and can ultimately overtake the Halliwells in areas the Veras haven't mastered yet. Each set of sisters are the Charmed Ones, which makes them the most powerful witches in history. If they ever faced each other, they would more than likely be equal in many regards. However, the future of Charmed is in the hands of the Vera sisters, and they are proving to be the most powerful trio.
