Charlie And The Great Glass Elevator is Roald Dahl's sequel to his famed novel Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, but when can fans expect to see a Netflix adaptation? Roald Dahl wrote several classic children's books, including Matilda and The Witches; he also penned the screenplay for James Bond adventure You Only Live Twice. Charlie And The Charlie Factory was published in 1964 and is arguably his most iconic work. The story involves a young boy named Charlie who finds a Golden Ticket and is invited to tour the chocolate factory of the eccentric Willy Wonka.

The book was first adapted as Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory in 1971, with the late Gene Wilder playing Wonka. The film is regarded as a classic now, but Roald Dahl famously disliked the adaptation and refused to allow an adaptation of Charlie And The Great Glass Elevator as a result. Tim Burton later helmed a remake of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory in 2005, which despite being a solid hit, failed to spawn a sequel.

Charlie And The Great Glass Elevator has yet to be adapted in either live-action or animation form, but fans of the book - and the works of Roald Dahl - are in luck, as there's currently more than one Willy Wonka project in development.

Harry Potter producer David Heyman is currently developing a prequel movie that will focus on Willy Wonka. Paul King (Paddington) is linked to direct the project, which will focus on Wonka's backstory, including the opening of his factory and why he isolated himself before the events of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

Names like Donald Glover, Ryan Gosling and Ezra Miller (Justice League) are being linked to the Willy Wonka role, though a release date has yet to be established.

Netflix has partnered with the Roald Dahl Story Company to turn a number of the author's works into animated series. This includes Charlie And The Great Glass Elevator and The BFG, though its unknown which novels will be adapted first.

The plot of Charlie And The Great Glass Elevator involves Willy Wonka and Charlie traveling to a space station hotel in the titular elevator, which is overrun with shapeshifting aliens called The Vermicious Knids. That's just how the bizarre adventure kicks off, though, so it will be very interesting to see how a Netflix series handles the material.
