On The Bachelor season 27 Women Tell All episode, Charity Lawson was announced as the star of the upcoming The Bachelorette season 20. Charity, a 27-year-old child and family therapist from Columbus, Georgia, had an immediate connection with leading man Zach Shallcross, a 26-year-old tech executive who currently lives in Austin, Texas. They shared a romantic one-on-one date in Estonia, and a successful hometown date, during which he met Charity's family. She even told him that she was falling in love with him. However, Zach eliminated her at the rose ceremony before the Fantasy Suites, leaving her confused and heartbroken.

On the Women Tell All special, host Jesse Palmer asked The Bachelor's Charity Lawson if she would like to be the next star of The Bachelorette. Charity was told that she was playing a game of this-or-that. Jesse asked her a series of questions, including "Bachelor in Paradise or Bachelorette?" Charity chose "Bachelorette," which then led Jesse to ask her if she wanted to be the next star. She said, "Stop! Is this for real? No way! Oh my god, I'm gonna cry." Charity then said she would "absolutely, 100 percent" love to be the Bachelorette as she hugged Jesse.

In her confessional, Charity gushed, "I'm the Bachelorette. Like, I can't even say that without crying, screaming. But I am the next Bachelorette. Like, it's me." She went on to say that she has "waited forever to find the love of my life." The Bachelor contestant added, "It blows my mind that I could meet my person and be engaged and literally have my happily ever after." In a sweet moment, Charity called her parents, who were thrilled by the news. She concluded by saying, "I can't wait to show little girls that look like me being in a position like this is possible. I know that I'll be making a lot of people proud."

Charity became a favorite to be The Bachelorette early in Zach's season because of how she presented herself with such poise and grace throughout the show. She dealt with conflict with the other women in a dignified manner. When Christina Mandrell questioned why Charity received a group date rose instead of her, Charity didn't allow herself to be drawn into the drama. The same was true when Kat Izzo stole Zach away and kissed him right before he left for his one-on-one date with Charity in Estonia. Charity proved that she could handle the pressure and was an understanding and forgiving contestant.

Charity's statement about representation is important, especially since the Bachelor franchise has a history of dealing poorly with racial issues in the past. She understands how essential it is to have diversity on the show. She is also open to finding love again after a past heartbreak that she opened up about during The Bachelor. Charity is the perfect choice for the next lead of The Bachelorette as it enters its milestone twentieth season, because she truly wants to find her forever love.
