Filled with beloved characters from the franchise, the film sees a group fight their way through the infected city to escape before the Umbrella Corporation can destroy it, along with all of its inhabitants. As they faced monsters and mutants, some characters were braver than others.

Albert Wesker

Portrayed by Umbrella Academy star Tom Hopper, officer Albert Wesker is a member of the STARS Alpha team. When they go to the Spencer Mansion to rescue the Bravo team, Wesker reveals that he's been hired to steal vials of the G-Virus in exchange for money and a ticket out of Raccoon City.

Wesker shows his true colors in his willingness to leave his friends to die on the off chance that he'll make a profit. Instead of staying to face the threat with the people he claims to care about- as Valentine begs him to do - he runs towards the prospect of money and ends up "dead" as a result.

Brian Irons

Played by Donal Logue, the Chief of the Raccoon City Police Department is quick to pack up when the outbreak begins. After saving a distracted Leon Kennedy from a flaming zombie truck driver, Irons leaves the rookie in charge of the station, taking off to escape the city.

Irons' willingness to abandon ship at the first sign of trouble is a mixture of intelligence and cowardice. He knows that there's no way to save the city and that he needs to get out before things get too bad, but leaving behind his co-workers and the people he swore to protect is far from brave. Irons is somewhat redeemed when he leads Claire and Leon to the city's orphanage, citing a secret passage leading to safety - but his first instinct to abandon everyone is disappointing.

William Birkin

Neal McDonough plays this Umbrella scientist. First introduced when a young Claire Redfield meets the mutated Lisa Trevor (Marina Mazepa), it's revealed later in the film that Birkin had been using the children in the Raccoon City Orphanage as test subjects for his viruses. After being fatally shot by Wesker, Birkin injects himself with one of his viruses, mutating him into a grotesque monster.

While undeniably the antagonist of the Resident Evil film, there's a certain braveness in his willingness to infect himself with a mutating virus. He's seen what the virus does to the infected and chose to risk that horrible existence over dying. Whether it was bravery or stubbornness, his efforts to survive the outbreak are thwarted as he fully mutates and is ended with a rocket launcher to the face.

Leon S. Kennedy

Portrayed by Avan Jogia, this rookie police officer is transferred to RPD just before the events of the movie occur. From his introduction, he's made out to be a coward- shying away from the teasing of his new co-workers and keeping to himself. As the department chief Brian Irons abandons the station, Leon is left in charge - something he himself says he's not ready for.

Despite his initial cowardice, the events of the movie seem to toughen him up. By the end, he's seen brandishing a rocket launcher and destroying the now fully-mutated Birkin, and saving what's left of the group. Facing hordes of zombies in Resident Evil is bound to make someone tougher, and fan-favorite character Leon Kennedy is no exception.

Jill Valentine

Hannah John-Kamen brings to life fan-favorite character Jill Valentine, a member of the RPD Alpha team. After arriving at the Spencer Mansion, she and Wesker go to the second floor to look for their missing co-workers. She's abandoned by Wesker after their helicopter crashes into the house, and she's left alone to find the others and escape.

Jill keeps her cool for the majority of the movie, only breaking her stoic streak twice: once when Wesker reveals his intentions to betray the group in Raccoon City, and again when she's forced to shoot him before he shoots Sherry Birkin. After these emotional moments, however, Jill acts as one of the most level-headed characters in the film.

Sherry Birkin

Played by the young Holly De Barros, Sherry Birkin is the daughter of the film's antagonist William Birkin. Swept away by her parents in the middle of the night, Sherry endures seemingly endless horrors throughout the movie's run time. After being saved by Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, she joins the group in their attempt to escape the city.

This child watches her mother get shot point-blank in the forehead, her father shot and seemingly killed before returning as a horrible mutated monster, and the city she grew up in overrun and destroyed- but she makes through with a relatively brave face. She has an understandable breakdown after watching her parents' deaths, but she goes on to trust in and escape with the group that saved her.

Chris Redfield

Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield in Resident Evil Welcome to Raccoon City

Chris Redfield (Robbie Amell) was raised in the Raccoon City Orphanage alone after his sister Claire ran away. Put through school and the police academy by William Birkin, Chris is quick to defend both Umbrella and his father figure when Claire accuses them of poisoning the city.

Chris is quick to react when the outbreak begins, shooting down zombies and making his way towards his friends and sister. He faces the mutated Birkin alone, encouraging his friends to run to safety while he tries to take down the mad scientist. Even as Birkin taunts him - telling him he was nothing but a pawn and could never be a part of Birkin's family - Chris takes it all in stride.

Claire Redfield

From the very beginning of the film, Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario) is the bravest character in the film. Having run away from Raccoon City when she was young, Claire returns when her online friend Ben Bertolucci (Josh Cruddas) mysteriously disappears.

In the events of the film, Claire faces death and countless undead without fear. There isn't a single moment where she seems nervous or scared. She saves Brian Irons from an infected Doberman, leads Leon through the abandoned orphanage, and helps get the group out of the city.
