When High School Musical first premiered back in 2006, Disney Channel knew they had created gold! From the catchy song lyrics to the adorable dance routines, everything about that first movie was perfect. Three more movies followed after that including Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure. These movies exceeded all expectations and part of the reason why is that the cast members chosen to play each role did exactly what they were supposed to do, flawlessly.

Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale will forever be household names because they starred in this epic and incredible musical franchise. Continue reading to see how we've ranked the characters from High School Musical.

Sharpay Evans

Sharpay Evans lands on our list as being the most annoying character from the High School Musical movie franchise. The reason we think so is that throughout the course of the films, she was often very manipulative and selfish. She had a cutthroat way about her and was willing to step on anyone in her way to reach the top. She dedicated her life to reaching success as a performer and was willing to reach that goal by any means necessary… Even if it meant stealing song lyrics from Gabriella and Troy.

Ms. Darbus

Ms. Darbus is second in line for being annoying because she was overly pushy. Yes, we understand that she was passionate when it came to theatrical arts, performing, and music as a whole, but at the same token, there is never a reason to be as pushy as she always was with her students! Sometimes when an educator is too pushy, it turns students away and makes them lose interest entirely.

Chad Danforth

Chad Danforth Cropped

Chad Danforth is third in line for being annoying because although he was a loyal friend, he was also a bit too judgmental for a while. Eventually, he came around and was willing to accept Troy Bolton entirely but before all that, he definitely had a lot of negativity with his way of thinking being very singular. It was odd to him that Troy Bolton would have more than one interest. In reality, high school students can spread their interests between sports and music without it being such a big deal!

Gabriella Montez

Gabriella Montez

Some might not consider Gabriella Montez to be an annoying character from High School Musical and that might be true in some instances because she truly was a great girlfrieng. But in all reality, she should not have blocked Troy's budding career prospects. A good girlfriend would have been supportive of him going to dinners to meet people who could help him build a better and brighter future for himself. Even though Sharpay was the one setting up meetings for Troy in the second movie, Gabriella still shouldn’t have gotten so upset about it.

Ryan Evans

Ryan Evans was the talented choreographer in the movie franchise who was able to share his amazing dance moves with his sister and the rest of his friends at his high school. The only thing that held Ryan Evans back from landing at a higher place on this list is the fact that he oftentimes went along with Sharpay Evans bratty behaviors earlier on in the franchise since he was her twin brother.

Coach Bolton

Coach Bolton was a great father and a great coach to his son, Troy! As soon as he found out that his son was interested in music, he was actually on board and supportive. And the first film, we noticed him joining the audience and sitting down to watch his son perform on stage alongside Gabriella Montez. Some parents might not support their kid's dreams when it comes to something like performing arts but Coach Bolton was supportive. We love dads like that.

Troy Bolton

Troy Bolton

Troy Bolton is nearing the top of our list for characters that were totally awesome in the High School Musical movie franchise and the reason we think so is that he was a genuinely good guy, despite the fact that he got sidetracked at times. He was the type of character who loved being around his friends, loved being around his family, and loved being around his girlfriend.

It is normal for teenage boys to get sidetracked and so for that, we aren’t too hard on him. Overall, Troy Bolton is a very well-rounded character from the musical franchise. Along with his love for basketball, he also proclaimed his love for musical arts and that is not something that a lot of teenage boys would be willing to do.

Zeke Baylor

Zeke Baylor was a basketball player who loved to bake! If anyone can remember from the song “Stick to the Status Quo,” he admitted that he liked making crème brûlée. Another thing that was super adorable and likable about the character of Zeke Baylor was the fact that he had an ongoing crush on Sharpay Evans, despite the fact that she acted like he didn’t even exist throughout the majority of the first movie. His persistence was notable and very charming. He is easily one of the more awesome characters from the overall franchise.

Taylor McKessie

Taylor McKessie is second in line for being the most awesome character in the High School Musical movie franchise because she was always there for Gabriella. She was a great friend and she genuinely had Gabriella’s back. She was even a bit overprotective on occasion. Taylor and Gabriella bonded over the fact that they both enjoyed science which is actually a great basis for a friendship. That is exactly how a true friend should be and so, therefore, Taylor definitely deserves "second place" on this list.

Kelsi Nielsen

The most awesome character from the entire High School Musical movie franchise would have to be Kelsi Nielsen. She was the adorably unproblematic songwriter and pianist who created beautiful lyrics and melodies for Gabriella Montez and Troy Bolton to perform together. She would write songs with them in mind which is in and of itself an extremely sweet thing to do. She is definitely one of the most likable characters from the movies and the fact that she was so musically talented made her even better!
