The first poster for Chaos Walking, starring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley, has been released. Back in 2016, Lionsgate began assembling its cast for a movie adaptation of Patrick Ness' novel "The Knife of Never Letting Go," and they secured two of Hollywood's rising stars. Ridley joined the project less than a year after Star Wars: The Force Awakens broke box office records, while Holland was cast in the lead role a few months after his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War.

Directed by Doug Liman, Chaos Walking had the makings of being a potential franchise and was scheduled to be released in theaters in 2019. However, Lionsgate was not thrilled with how the movie turned out after production, with reports calling the cut "unreleasable." Reshoots were ordered and Chaos Walking was indefinitely delayed for a time. The movie's January 2021 release date is just a few months away, and it now appears Lionsgate is starting the promotional push.

The first poster for Chaos Walking has surfaced online, via Digital Spy, and shows a brand new look at Holland and Ridley's characters. It teases several aspects of the movie's plot, such as its non-Earth setting and the Noise. The latter is even featured in the film's tagline, "No one escapes the Noise." The poster intriguingly doesn't include a release date, which could signal that it might not arrive in January 2021 as previously planned.

Even though this is just a poster for Chaos Walking, it does provide some teases about the film's plot and setting for those who aren't familiar with Ness' novels. The story is set on New World, an alien planet colonized by humanity, which explains the planets visible in the sky. Meanwhile, the orange wavelengths coming from Holland's head appears to be how Chaos Walking will visualize the Noise.

Now that the first poster for Chaos Walking has been released, it might not be too long before the long-awaited first trailer arrives. Fans have grown quite anxious waiting for any new information on the movie, so the debut of this poster will surely only increase interest in seeing some footage. Outside of this poster, there has only been one official still from Chaos Walking released, and that happened three years ago. Whether or not the movie proves to be worth the wait remains to be seen, but there will be great interest in the movie just to see Ridley and Holland on screen together. Now fans will just have to hope that the trailer comes soon and that the movie isn't pushed back again. And if Chaos Walking does ultimately deliver, then perhaps there is still a chance it could become a franchise after all.
