Nick Jonas has joined the cast of the forthcoming film adaption of Chaos Walking. Based in part on the young adult science-fiction series written by Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls), the first chapter in a potential Chaos Walking movie trilogy is being directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne IdentityEdge of Tomorrow). Centering around a world in which all living creatures can hear one another's thoughts in a stream of images, words, and sounds in a phenomenon called Noise, the movie is being headlined by the likes of Daisey Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming).

Chaos Walking begins filming very soon, with the goal of making its currently-scheduled early 2019 release date. As such, the project is currently in the middle of firming up its cast, ahead of production getting underway. Following word that Kurt Sutter (creator of Sons of Anarchy) has joined the cast - with Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) reportedly in talks to appear as a central antagonist - the latest Chaos Walking update reveals that another noteworthy name is joining the film's cast.

According to The Wrap, Jonas has now joined the Chaos Walking cast - which, in addition to the aforementioned names, also includes Demian Bichir (The Hateful Eight). Fresh off his work in the independent Sundance hit Goat last year, Jonas is all set to make a bigger splash with his role in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle later this year. The pop singer-turned actor also released his third solo album, Last Year Was Complicated, back in June.

The Chaos Walking script has gone through a handful of drafts now, with early versions penned by Charlie Kaufman (Anomalisa) and Jamie Linden (Money Monster). The movie aims to both please fans of the YA dystopia sub-genre in spades and reverse the downward box office trend of YA sci-fi book adaptations in recent years (see, for example, the under-performance of The Divergent Series: Allegiant).

Liman has delivered several critical and commercial hits in his career already, and with any luck Chaos Walking will prove to be another satisfying sci-fi epic from the seasoned Hollywood filmmaker. With Jonas joining a cast already teeming with A-list talent, things appear to be shaping up in a decidedly positive direction for the project.
