Here's the full cast and character guide for Chaos Walking. Based on the book series by Patrick Ness, Chaos Walking is set on the colony of New World in the 23rd century. Women have been wiped out, and the remaining male population are forced to share their every waking thought due to a phenomenon called noise (which is one way to get men talking about their feelings). Chaos Walking begins when New World's Todd meets a female stranger called Viola, and the pair begin digging into the murky truth of their shared history.

Chaos Walking initially completed filming in 2017 but, according to reports, the finished cut was deemed unreleasable and scored poorly with test audiences, leading to mass reshoots after Holland and Ridley were finished with Spider-Man: Far From Home and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, respectively. Chaos Walking finally released in March 2021 exclusively in theaters, despite many screens remaining closed. As Chaos Walking gradually becomes available to a wider audience, these are the faces you can expect to encounter.

Tom Holland as Todd Hewitt

Tom Holland in Chaos Walking

Tom Holland shot to fame as the MCU's Peter Parker, debuting in Captain America: Civil War, but has since diversified in the likes of Cherry and Pixar's Onward. He's also set to play Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted adaptation. Holland stars in Chaos Walking as Todd, a simple young boy living in New World's Prentisstown, cared for by adopted fathers. Like every other male on the planet, Todd's thoughts manifest as noise for everyone to hear.

Daisy Ridley as Viola Eade

Daisy Ridley is predominantly known for playing Rey in the Star Wars sequels, and similarly to Tom Holland, experienced a meteoric rise thanks to a major Disney franchise. Ridley landed the title role in Ophelia and featured in Murder on the Orient Express, but Chaos Walking was expected to mark her breakout from the Star Wars universe before the movie hit choppy waters. Ridley is Viola Eade, a mysterious girl who crash lands on New World and encounters Todd by chance, forever changing both of their lives. As a female, her inner thoughts remain private.

Mads Mikkelsen as David Prentiss

Chaos Walking ending explained

Shocking as it may be, Mads Mikkelsen plays the villain in Chaos Walking. Known for antagonistic roles in Casino Royale and Doctor Strange, the Danish actor also starred as the titular cannibal in NBC's Hannibal and joined Rogue One as Galen Erso, designer of the Death Star. Mikkelsen will replace Johnny Depp as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts movies. In Chaos Walking, Mads Mikkelsen portrays David Prentiss, dastardly mayor of Prentisstown, ruling over his domain with secrecy and intimidation. David's involvement in the dark past of New World seems to run deep.

David Oyelowo as Aaron

David Oyelowo as Aaron in Chaos Walking

Getting his big break on British TV via Spooks, David Oyelowo hit the cinematic big time with a game-changing performance as Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma, although playing Nigel Basil-Jones in the upcoming Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway could earn even greater plaudits. Oyelowo's Aaron is a preacher in service of Mayor Prentiss and a secondary antagonist in Chaos Walking, who pursues Todd and Viola relentlessly as part of his ideological crusade.
