City affiliation is one of the many features associated with MyPLAYER within the NBA 2K22 MyCAREER mode. City affiliations aren't something that can be chosen at the beginning of MyCAREER, but they can be changed later on. After progressing through the opening story of the young high schooler and making it to the first city, players will be able to freely explore a bit more of what their city has to offer.
From the very beginning of a player's time in The City, they'll immediately be thrown into a random city affiliation. Unlike the setup for face scan in MyPLAYER, there are no prompts, questions, or decisions that will affect where the first city affiliation is, so players should feel free to play through the opening of MyPLAYER with some leisure in NBA 2K22. Regardless of the first city affiliation, the ultimate goal of MyCAREER is still going to be making a name for MP in the worlds and industries of music, fashion, and, most importantly, basketball - specifically going after NBA Championships.
NBA 2K22 has four different city affiliations in MyCAREER. Affiliations affect the Daily Spin and allegiance for Season Events, and they grant a 20% boost to earned experience points for playing at the home court. However, activities like getting the Gym Rat Badge are going to be the same no matter which city a player is affiliated with. Additionally, since The City feature is only available on PS5 and Xbox X|S, only players with these versions of NBA 2K22 will be able to change anything.
NBA 2K22: How To Change Affiliation
The four different affiliations in NBA 2K22 are:
- Western Wildcats
- Beasts of the East
- Northside Knights
- South City Vipers
City affiliations can be changed by heading to the city hall of the city players want to switch to. For example, someone whose affiliation is with the Beasts of the East would need to go to the city hall of the Western Wildcats in order to change affiliation. Complete an Affiliation Transfer Request by interacting with the city hall.
One of the features added to NBA 2K22 is the addition of seasons, which also affects how city affiliation changes can happen. Affiliations can be changed as many times as desired in the first seven days of a season and once in the middle of the season. New seasons begin every 40 days, so any boosts or benefits received for one season might be different for the next. It's a bit of a gamble trying to choose the "correct" city.
