Fessy Shafaat from The Challenge shared with fans on the latest episode that he would be fasting while on the show in honor of Ramadan. Ramadan is a holy month in the Islamic religious tradition. It occurs during the ninth month of the Muslim year, which ran from April 12 to May 12 in 2021. Ramadan is a chance for Muslims to self-reflect and incorporate important habits into their lives. What else should fans expect from Fessy as he observes this religious tradition while on the show?

Season 37 of The Challenge, named Spies, Lies, & Allies, is back, this time in Croatia. Fessy has been a notable veteran in the competition since his debut back on Total Madness. He was a high-level college athlete with a chip on his shoulder. Fessy even had his eyes on the NFL with a tryout lined up, but his dreams sadly didn't work out. While on CBS's Big Brother 20, Fessy finished 9th out of 16 contestants. Even though he may have been extremely gullible, Fessy is learning from his mistakes and is now looking forward to taking advantage of the new rookies.

This year, Fessy is returning for his third season. He is looking to make it all the way this time around and snag the final prize. In the August 18 episode, Fessy shared he would be fasting from sunrise to sunset in honor of Ramadan. Ramadan requires that Muslims abstain from food or drink, including water, from sunrise until sunset (via ABC). Viewers are worried Fessy will struggle this time around since he needs all the energy he can get if he wants to win.

The rule of fasting during Ramadan is not overly strict. Muslims often don't start fasting until they are over 14 years old. Some Muslims, such as pregnant women or the elderly, don't have to fast at all. In addition to fasting, Muslims are encouraged to act charitably, doing good deeds and staying away from sinful acts. Ramadan is a month where worshippers spend time with family, try to help others in need, and give up bad habits.

The whole premise behind Fessy's fasting is to devote himself to Islam, learn self-discipline, and empathize with the poor. Millions of Muslims celebrate the month of Ramadan. Still, Fessy is going to have to figure out his game plan if he wants to make it to the end. Since he isn't eating during the day, he also isn't working out as much. In the latest episode, Fessy shared it was hard to watch all the other contestants eat before a challenge while he couldn't. Fessy is tough and will make it through the full month of fasting, but some think it will end up hurting his game.
