Season 36 of The Challenge has come to a close, and although Double Agents received criticism throughout the show, fans were blown away by the final. There were many viewers who weren’t crazy about the Double Agents format this season, but few could deny that the final more than made up for any reservations about the rest of the season. From the mini challenges, to the two-day format, to the striking and desolate landscape itself, fans are calling this one of the best finals ever.

The showrunner has spoken about how “gnarly” the final was, and how production had to contend with an actual hurricane, so it was dramatic from the start. This season, the four final teams endured a grueling first day that consisted of lots of running, puzzles, and eating a revolting array of food. Kaycee and Fessy timed out of the competition due to Kaycee’s knee injury and Fessy wussing out. The remaining three teams spent a miserable night in a glacier cave before continuing on to the exhausting second day. After more puzzles and even more running, the winning team crossed the finish line.

The two-part final was a nail-biter all the way through, and fans were quick to shout out their enjoyment of the end of the season. One fan on Reddit called the final “one of the better ones we've had in recent seasons." Many thought the two-day format worked well. “I love watching them have to deal with a rough overnight & then have to continue on the next day,” one fan commented, “makes it harder for everyone.”

Fans also felt that production has learned from past mistakes and criticism when it came to the details of the final. This season, they appreciated the long runs, multiple checkpoints, and the advantages given to teams that came in first at the checkpoints. But despite all the details, the final still felt straightforward enough to be enjoyable and easy to follow. Many viewers enjoyed the Double Agents season, but the final pushed it over the top and into legendary status.

However, not all fans were as enthusiastic about the season 36 final. Some of them didn’t like the checkpoints and felt it gave the show a “start-and-stop” feel. There were others who weren’t a fan of the advantages and disadvantages that were handed out throughout the final and prefer to just let the competitors go until it’s over. Those fans were generally critical of the entire season, and have also taken issue with competitor’s attitudes and the Double Agents format as well.

But overall, it seems that far more fans are happy with The Challenge: Double Agents final and how it played out. Most think the final was both grueling and exciting—which is exactly what they watch for. The three final teams (and Kaycee) truly gave their all in the final, and fans overall responded positively to their dedication. For many fans, Double Agents was success from start to finish, and they would love to see the season get a sequel in the future.
