Norm Macdonald receives a fitting tribute as the Wikipedia page for the movie Chairman of the Board is vandalized in his honor. Released in 1998, Chairman of the Board starred prop comedian and frequent punching bag Carrot Top as a surfing inventor. The comedy vehicle ultimately proved a massive flop at the box office as it grossed just $181,000 on a budget of $10 million.

Indeed the world probably would’ve forgotten Chairman of the Board entirely had it not been for a memorable appearance by then-SNL star Macdonald on Late Night With Conan O’Brien where he turned the film’s title into a hilarious punchline. Macdonald, who passed away last week at the age of 61, famously hijacked O'Brien’s 1997 interview with Chairman of the Board actress Courtney Thorne-Smith, making fun of her for being in a movie with Carrot Top that he said should be titled “Box Office Poison.” Things went so off the rails in the interview that an exasperated O’Brien finally challenged Macdonald to make a joke out of the movie’s title Chairman of the Board. Demonstrating his signature quick wit, Macdonald shot back "I bet the 'Board' is spelt B-O-R-E-D."

Indeed that particular memorable talk show appearance came up often during tributes for Macdonald in the wake of his passing. Now a Wikipedia vandal has taken things a step further by altering the page for Chairman of the Board to re-title the movie Chairman of the Bored. Since the page will certainly be returned to normal soon, there’s a screenshot of the Macdonald tribute in the space below:

The news of Macdonald’s passing from cancer at age 61 of course shocked the entertainment world as the comedian had kept his health struggles private. After news broke of Macdonald’s death, social media was naturally flooded with tributes from fans and fellow comedians alike, and posting clips of Macdonald’s many hilarious talk show appearances became a way for his admirers to honor his passing while remembering how funny he was. In addition to his great appearances on O’Brien’s show, Macdonald also had a lot of fun with David Letterman over the years, performing his first TV stand-up on Letterman’s show and also appearing as the last stand-up act on The Late Show before Letterman retired.

Macdonald’s Carrot Top-bashing appearance on O’Brien's show may not have been his greatest ever performance but it certainly resulted in one of his most infamous moments. Thankfully, Thorne-Smith later said she was not offended by Macdonald’s teasing and actually took it as a compliment. Macdonald himself also later expressed regret for being mean to Carrot Top and apologized. But Carrot Top truly shouldn’t be offended either, because without Macdonald’s epic Chairman of the Bored joke, the world surely would have long-since forgotten Chairman of the Board.
