The season 2 finale of Central Park that aired in April found the Tillermans and Birdie in a surprising team up, and while some fans may feel invested in what happens to the park, many are looking forward to season 3 for more catchy songs and fun from the lively cast of characters.
It's no surprise that the main characters are hilarious. The people behind the animated faces together form an all-star cast complete with famous comedians, Broadway talents, and very experienced voice actors. They know what they're doing and it really shows.
Paige Hunter
Paige Hunter is both a loving mom and a devoted journalist who is passionate about her job and reporting the truth to the people. She always has her finger on the pulse of a good story.
While she's voiced by the amazing Kathryn Hahn and has some wonderful deprecating humor, she is simply not the funniest when compared to the rest of the main characters. She comes across as very earnest and passionate about her job more than anything else. While she's well-written, her character doesn't spring as many jokes as others.
Cole Tillerman
Since Central Park shares creators and animators with the beloved, quotable hit Bob's Burgers, it's difficult to not try to draw comparisons between the Tillermans and Belchers when watching the show.
Though they are both little brothers of the family, Cole is nothing like Gene. He is much sweeter and gentler and wears his heart on his sleeve. He has incredible joke deliveries and a beautiful singing voice since he is voiced by Broadway alum Tituss Burgess. He's a funny character, especially when he's overdramatic, but he's more of a sweetheart than a strictly comical character.
Molly Tillerman
Molly Tillerman is hilarious in a very relatable awkward teenager kind of way, and she owns it. She's very endearing and charming, but there is a lot of comedy gold that stems from her being self-conscious, too.
While she was originally voiced by Kristen Bell shortly after her time on the comedy The Good Place, Emmy Raver-Lampman does an incredible job taking over in season 2 and delivers Molly's jokes as great as ever. Molly allows fans to remember the emotional stakes of being a teenager in school and having a lot of feelings.
Helen
Fans of dry humor and surprises have a lot to love about Helen. The humor from this character is sneaky but undeniable. There are scenes in which she fades into the background, but others when she really makes herself known.
The best part is that Helen is voiced by Daveed Diggs of Hamilton fame, and it's a very intentional choice. Helen is the funniest when she is rapping, spitting rhymes like she shouldn't be able to when she looks so unsuspecting. The juxtaposition is hilarious in itself. She has great chemistry with Bitsy, too.
Owen Tillerman
Owen Tillerman is a wonderful dad character who brings a lot of humor an pathos to the show. He's an all-around classic sitcom dad and so much of his comedy comes from him fumbling around, just trying to do his best.
A lot of jokes center around just how much he cares and puts into everything, and it's funny to see just how backward everything he's involved in can get. He is also very anxious and tends to over worry, so fans who experience the same behavior can enjoy a lot of catharsis in jokes that center around his personality.
Bitsy Brandenham
Bitsy fits the classic trope of a villain who does not look like what one may expect a villain to look like, and that's enough to give her a hilarious edge. Her comically over-the-top voice adds another layer to the hilarity.
She's voiced by Stanley Tucci, which seems like such an absurd choice, but it works incredibly well. Bitsy's emotions are all over the place, and whether she is singing, yelling, or bossing Helen around, it is usually hilarious. Her look and size allow for a lot of visual gags, too. An evil villain out to destroy a park is silly, and Bitsy really makes it work.
Birdie
One of the show's co-creators, Josh Gad, is the voice of Birdie, and the show wouldn't be much without him. Birdie has so many of the best songs in the show, and he's the narrator that keeps all the viewers in the loop.
There are many physical humor jokes in the animation, from how he moves around the park to how he gets closer to watch parts of the story take place. However, the biggest reason why Birdie is the funniest character is because of Josh Gad's voice work. Gad has impeccable comedic timing and, though that, is able to elevate the writing beyond its already high quality.
