Our fascination with celebrity love stems from our obsession with romance, whether it be fictional or real. In the 1950s, it was Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier, and of course, Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe.
In the 1960s, it was the American president and his first lady, JFK and Jackie O. People followed the president’s rumoured affairs like a soap-opera and despaired at Jackie’s supposed heartache as though she were a friend.
Later, in the '70s, Jack Nicholson and Angelica Houston made the headlines with their on, then off, then on again romance that lasted 17 years, during which Nicholson repeatedly left the actress broken-hearted with his on-going affairs and lack of commitment.
Of course, these days celeb relationships are still just as captivating, though a lot less mysterious. With the countless blogs, social media accounts, and celebrity websites, they pretty much take over our news feeds whether we like it or not, but let’s face it: we kinda like it.
However, even if you are up to date with all the showbiz gossip, it’s very unlikely that you’ll know about this lot since these couples like to keep things on the DL.
With that said, here are the 15 Incredible Current Celebrity Couples You Didn’t Know About.
15 Dave Franco and Alison Brie
Dave Franco is only three years younger than Alison Brie, but for some reason, it was harder for him to shed his little guy image. Perhaps this had something to do with him being James Franco’s younger sibling. He was also being cast as frat boys/jocks/college kids for quite some time.
While Dave Franco played a soccer player in 2007’s Superbad, Brie had just taken on the role of Pete Campbell’s wife in Mad Men.
Nowadays, Franco is being offered more mature parts on TV shows like Easy and was even given a lead role in his brother’s award-winning film, The Disaster Artist.
Meanwhile, Brie is getting some well-deserved recognition for her performance in the female wrestling Netflix series, Glow. Additionally, the pair love working together, having both starred in comedy flick The Lost Hours.
14 Lily James and Matt Smith
Being rather private people, Matt Smith and Lily James prefer to keep their love-life under wraps. The British couple met while filming the bloody Jane Austen adaptation, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in 2014.
By then, Matt had already been cast as the legendary Doctor Who for four years, and Lily had made a name for herself in British TV drama, Downton Abbey.
Today, both actors have numerous movie projects lined up. Most recently, James stunned viewers as Baby’s love interest in Baby Driver and Matt was applauded for his performance in Netflix's The Crown (in which he plays the Queen’s husband, Prince Phillip).
Despite being spotted out and about in 2014, their relationship did not go public until 2015.
13 Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa
Some know Lisa Bonet as Lenny Kravitz’s ex, others know her as Zoe Kravitz’s mother, but most will know her as Denise Huxtable from The Cosby Show.
However, what a lot of people don’t know is that Lisa Bonet has been in a relationship with Jason Momoa (also known as Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones and Aquaman) for roughly twelve years.
The pair have two children together and finally tied the knot in 2017.
We don’t know who’s luckier of the two, although it’s probably, most definitely, Momoa. Momoa stated on The Late Late Show with James Corden that he’d been in love with Bonet since he first saw her on The Cosby Show when he was eight. When he finally got to meet her through mutual friends, his dreams somehow came true.
12 Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley
Tom Hardy is undeniably one of the most prominent British actors there is, and this is mostly down to his risk-taking performances that grab even the most distracted audience’s attention.
However, before making it big in Hollywood, he did a bunch of British films and TV series that got him where he is today. He met his current wife, Charlotte Riley, at the very initial stages of his career, while filming the 2009 TV mini-series Wuthering Heights.
The pair were cast in lead roles, with Hardy and Riley playing the heartbroken lovers, Heathcliff and Cathy, respectively. Although her spouse has done many big budget movies since then, Riley prefers to stick with TV work.
The couple were married in 2014. Though they often attend premieres together, but they do like to keep their love-life relatively private.
11 Frances McDormand and Joel Coen
Frances McDormand has collaborated with the Coen brothers in no less than six of their movies. In fact, she even played the female lead in their very first movie, Blood Simple, and went on to marry Joel Coen the same year that it was released. Coincidentally, it was Mcdormand’s first movie too.
McDormand was later cast in the Coen brothers' more well-known film Fargo, for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress.
Something tells us that these two are destined to be together.
Surprisingly, the actress was hesitant about playing the protagonist in her latest flick, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, despite the director having her in mind for the lead when writing the screenplay. Fortunately, her husband convinced her to do it and she is now up for yet another Academy Award.
10 Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally
While Nick Offerman is mostly recognized for his role as steak-lover Ron Swanson in Parks and Recreation, Megan Mullally is famous for playing the outspoken socialite, Karen Walker, in Will & Grace.
The married couple have also partaken in each other’s shows-- Mullally was cast as Tammy Swanson (or Tammy II), Ron Swanson’s on-off ex-wife, and Offerman recently guest-starred in the new season of Will & Grace.
Despite their success, Offerman and Mullally met way before making it big in Hollywood; it was during rehearsals for a theatre production in 2000 that they fell in love. The pair didn’t waste time, because in 2003, they got married at a surprise wedding that they had arranged for close friends and family.
Funny enough, Nick didn’t get any major roles until Parks and Rec in 2009, but he was more than happy to support his wife during her time filming Will & Grace.
9 Dylan Minnette and Kerris Dorsey
After Dylan Minnette starred in children’s movie Goosebumps and horror flick Don’t Breath, it was his role as Clay Jensen in Netflix show 13 Reasons Why that eventually launched him to stardom.
Weirdly, he met fellow actress Kerris Dorsey while playing her brother in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
Kerris was so happy about Dylan being cast as Clay Jensen that she penned a nice message of support on her Instagram stating: “when i first met @dylan_minnette, he reminded me of clay from the book 13 Reasons Why and now he is clay from the Netflix show 13 Reasons Why. Whaaaaat? Go watch this beautiful, important, and heartbreaking show right now. Prepare yourself and your heart.”
This was followed by multiple heart emojis, so that can only mean one thing: love.
8 Sam Smith and Brandon Flynn
British singer Sam Smith is known for singing about heartache and pain, but these days the artist is actually feeling the opposite-- he is currently in a happy relationship with American actor and 13 Reasons Why star Brandon Flynn.
In 13 Reasons Why, Brandon played a suffering youth (Justin Foley) who gets himself into a fair amount of trouble.
One can only wonder how the two met in the first place as they have been rather quiet about the whole thing. However, they are frequently seen in NYC together and their numerous social media posts seem to suggest they are getting serious.
In a recently published V Magazine interview, Sam Smith expressed that recently he is feeling more inclined to write happy songs, and we can certainly see why.
7 Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy
Claire Danes has been a valued actress for decades now. Having first starred in the acclaimed teen show My So-Called Life (which despite its success was cancelled due to low ratings), she was then cast as Juliet in Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet movie adaptation.
Since then, she went on to star in several movies, before being cast as Carrie Mathison in the hit TV series, Homeland.
Yet, despite her fame, Claire Danes is a largely private person who rarely does interviews or speaks about her personal life.
It’s for this reason that many people don’t know that the American actress is married to British actor Hugh Dancy, also known for playing FBI agent William Graham in the Hannibal series.
The pair met while filming a romantic movie together (Evening) in 2007 and married just two years later.
6 Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons
There’s no denying it, their children are going to be very, very blonde. While Dunst isn’t very vocal about her dating life, she doesn’t necessarily hide it either. Her previous relationship with actor Garrett Hedlund did get a lot of media attention, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
Dunst got to know Jesse Plemons while playing his on-screen wife in the second season of Fargo. Despite having a toxic relationship on the show, the two hit it off when the cameras weren’t rolling and the pair are currently awaiting the birth of their first child.
Although Dunst was already very famous before filming Fargo, Plemons was more of a background actor, but a good one at that.
We predict great things for these two, both love-wise and career-wise.
5 Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig
This British couple are known for keeping to themselves despite their overwhelmingly successful movie careers.
The pair share an aversion to glamorous parties and movie events and try to avoid them whenever they can.
Despite having worked together before, the two fell in love on the set of Dream House (a movie about a married couple who move into a house of nightmares), although surprisingly, they were both in relationships when the shooting commenced.
To some, it might seem like they have little in common other than their country of birth and career choice, with Craig leaving school at 16 and Weisz attending various private schools before studying English at Cambridge.
Nonetheless, they both got to the same place eventually, with Craig becoming the eighth James Bond and Weisz making it as one of the most revered and versatile actresses today. Perhaps opposites do attract.
4 Wyatt Russell and Meredith Hagner
Although they are both in their very early thirties and neither has been in the acting game for very long, Wyatt Russell and Meredith Hagner have recently landed themselves a few stand-out roles that have placed a huge spotlight on them, showing off their potential as young actors.
It seems like acting was always on the cards for Russell-- he is the son of one of Hollywood’s most famous couples, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell-- but he initially pursued a career in hockey before an injury prevented him from playing.
After taking on various cameo roles, Russell went on to star in comedy Folk Hero & Funny Guy, alongside Hagner.
Russell gained further acclaim after starring in a Black Mirror episode and playing a hipster boyfriend in Ingrid Goes West. However, you will most likely recognize Hagner as the irritating yet lovable Portia in the dark TV comedy, Search Party.
3 Jordan Peele and Chelsea Peretti
Considering that they are both highly accomplished comedians, it’s not surprising that Jordan Peele and Chelsea Peretti ended up falling for each other. The two met (apparently via Twitter) and started dating in 2013 before getting married roughly three years later.
For the last decade or so, both have starred in many comedy shows. You’ll probably know about Peele’s sketch show Key and Peele (which also starred his close pal Keegan-Michael Key). The male comedy duo also created the show, as well as wrote most of the episodes. Similarly, Peretti currently plays Gina Linetti in the NYPD series, Brooklyn-Nine-Nine.
However, the married couple has many talents.
Peretti is also a stand-up comedian and Peele directed and wrote one of the most acclaimed horror movies of our time, Get Out.
2 Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford
Carey Mulligan has been in a lot of good movies. To some degree, this is down to her picking the right roles, however, Mulligan is also an incredibly talented actress.
She first appeared as a supporting actress in the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice (Keira Knightley was the lead), but not long after, she was given larger roles in movies Drive, The Great Gatsby, and Shame.
Although she is married to the lead singer of Mumford & Sons, Marcus Mumford, very little is known about her private life. During an interview for Vogue that was published in 2015, she admitted to wanting as much privacy as possible in order to maintain some ambiguity, which she felt helps to separate her characters from her real life.
She also revealed that “Marcus is the only thing that’s mine that I can keep totally away, so I try to.”
1 Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin
Most will know about Chris Martin’s marriage to Gwyneth Paltrow, but since their "conscious uncoupling" in 2016, Martin has been more than a little secretive about his dating life.
After their separation, Martin has been linked to some extremely famous women, including Anabelle Wallis from Peaky Blinders and Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence.
Now, it seems like he is dating yet another high-profile actress.
Nothing’s been officially confirmed yet, but Fifty Shades actress Dakota Johnson and the Coldplay frontman have been seen cuddling and holding hands in the last few months.
Her father, actor Don Johnson, even talked to The Sun about Chris saying: “He's a lovely guy. I've met him and you want your kids happy, no matter what shape it takes. That's the goal, that's the key. He's a very talented and gifted musician.” So, it looks like he’s in her family’s good books.
