Polish gaming company CD Projekt Red has donated over $240,000 to a relief fund for citizens affected by the Ukraine-Russia conflict. The Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher developer is not the first video game company to make a financial contribution, as fellow Polish developer 11 bit studios recently supported the Ukrainian Red Cross by donating all the proceeds from This War of Mine.

Following in 11 bit studios's footsteps, CD Projekt Red issued a statement via its Twitter account expressing its shock and condolences for the struggles facing the Ukrainian people. In a series of two tweets, CDPR stated it stands firmly in opposition to the Russian government and its actions, calling the steps taken against Ukraine "an act of aggression" and an "injustice". The studio went on to state that it would be donating one million PLN - which converts to roughly $242,352 USD - to humanitarian organization PAH, Polska Akcja Humanitarna, a group delivering aid to Ukraine among other regions. CDPR ultimately ended its statement by urging others to donate and help to their fullest capacity.

Over the past year, CDPR has mostly been in the news for its handling of Cyberpunk 2077. While there are plenty of gamers out there who may have this controversy heavy on their mind when thinking about the company, its efforts here are undeniably admirable. The invasion of Ukraine is a difficult, painful situation for people across the globe, including those in gaming companies. As such, it will be more important for the gaming community to focus on this mutual goal of humanitarianism than on the checkered histories of studios like CD Projekt Red.
