Cyberpunk 2077 developer and publisher CD Projekt RED has responded to news of a class-action lawsuit, vowing to "vigorously" defend itself against claims that it violated federal laws by misleading investors. The Polish company released the statement following an investor lawsuit that was filed in a Los Angeles federal court. According to the class-action suit, CDPR misled its investors about the quality of the recently released RPG, resulting in investors incurring major losses.

Since Cyberpunk 2077's launch nearly three weeks ago, CD Projekt RED's shares have suffered a heavy blow. Such losses came on the heels of the game's console version receiving poor reception across the board. Sony's decision to delist the title on PlayStation Store contributed to further losses, which, in turn, gave way to more than one class-action lawsuit filed by CPDR investors. The studio aims to mount a vigorous defense against the damaging allegations, though.

According to a Bloomberg report, the company responded to the claims in a filing late last week. Said filing addresses accusations of the studio's misleading practices, before noting that it will "vigorously [defend itself] against any such claims." CD Projekt RED's statement on the matter reads in part, "the plaintiffs call for the court to adjudicate whether the actions undertaken by the company and members of its management board in connection with the release of Cyberpunk 2077 constituted a violation of federal laws, i.e. by misleading investors and consequently causing them to incur losses."

It, of course, remains to be seen how this will all end. As evidenced by the class-action lawsuit filed against Bethesda following Fallout 76's glitch-ridden launch, these disputes can take a long while to reach any sort of resolution. That investors serve as the plaintiff in CD Projekt RED's case is bound to further complicate matters.

While studio management wrestles with lawsuits, CDPR developers are in the trenches themselves, working to stabilize Cyberpunk 2077, especially for players on base PS4 and Xbox One consoles. A couple of big patches have rolled out in the weeks since launch, both of which have helped things run a bit smoother. However, many players are still strapped with bug-laden experiences and crashes. Hopefully, the two bigger updates releasing in January and February will see the title reach a much better state of performance.
