This article contains spoilers for Catwoman #23

Catwoman is DC's master burglar and a formidable foil to Batman's strong sense of justice. A major character in Batman's gallery of rogues, Catwoman has been a relevant character in the DC universe for decades. The remarkable thing about Catwoman is, like Batman, she has no abilities that qualify as a superpower, save the ability to fit into extremely tight leather. Powerless superheroes and villains usually have some advantage that allows them to tangle with the likes of their powered peers - which makes her next battle against the God of Death that much more challenging.

Selina Kyle first appeared in Batman #1 in 1940. Young Selina found gymnastics as an escape from her abusive and neglectful parents. In Selina's youth, her mother preferred the company of her many cats to the company of her daughter. She committed suicide when Selina was young and her father eventually died of extreme alcoholism. After being mistreated and almost murdered by members of the institution that housed her following the death of her parents, Selina was forced to survive in the unforgiving city of Gotham alone. Selina honed the gymnastic abilities she gained from childhood to perform amazing feats that made her a more skilled thief. She eventually becomes the highly skilled burglar that Batman sees as both a competent foe and occasional love interest. Catwoman #23  showcases Selina in all her glory headed to an island that promises riches and violence. While extremely skilled with her signature whip and gymnastic abilities, will the femme fatale pose a challenge for The God of Death teased in this exciting issue?

Catwoman #23 written by Sean Murphy and Blake Northcott finds Catwoman traveling to the mysterious island of Isla Nevada. While on her flight to the island one of her fellow passengers informs her that Kisin, the local legend known as the God of Death is presumed to be responsible for some recent disappearances. The passenger also gestures to Selina's cat pendant when describing the island's bizarre happenings, hinting at a cat-themed antagonist. This foreshadowing causes readers to question whether Catwoman is equipped to deal with a seemingly supernatural threat.

Catwoman has faced off against the Caped Crusader countless times. She has also thrown down with numerous members of Batman's gallery of rogues and anyone that gets in the way of her goals (which usually include stealing shiny things). Armed with metal claws, a whip, and bolas, Selina Kyle has established herself as one of the most dangerous female characters in Gotham alongside her fellow Gotham City Sirens. The God of Death? That's a whole other challenge.

Catwoman #23 sets Selina Kyle up for the quintessential Catwoman storyline: a story where Catwoman uses her dazzling looks and lethal athleticism to relentlessly pursue whatever she desires. This storyline offers a promising new challenge for Catwoman in the villain teased as The God of Death. There is no telling what adventure the next issue of Catwoman will bring, but readers will definitely get to enjoy the cunning cat-burglar fight for survival on the mysterious Isla Nevada.
