A stunning new piece of fan art is imagining Quantico star Priyanka Chopra as famed DC villain Catwoman. Aka Selina Kyle, Catwoman has had a mostly successful run on the big screen, from the definitive turn by Julie Newmar, followed by Eartha Kitt in the 1960s Batman TV Series (and Lee Meriwether in 1966’s Batman: The Movie), as well as Michele Pfeiffer in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns in 1992. Then came along the version of the character that most every fan wants to forget, Halle Berry’s 2004 disaster Catwoman, where Selina Kyle was renamed Patience Phillips. The Pitof film was so bad that it earned Berry a Razzie Award for Worst Actress.
Of course, the most recent live-action film, appearance by Selina Kyle/Catwoman came with Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan’s 2012 blockbuster The Dark Knight Rises, where the cat burglar formed an uneasy alliance with Batman (Christian Bale) that eventually turned into a romantic coupling (depending on your interpretation of the last scenes in the film). Last but not least, fans finally got a live-action look at the origins of Catwoman in 2014 in the hit TV series Gotham, and the character has flourished in the capable hands of Camren Bicondova.
But with the DC Extended Universe back in high gear, fans have been waiting patiently for Catwoman to make her return in the big screen version of Gotham City Sirens. And while various names have been batted around as to who should play Catwoman, prolific graphic artist Boss Logic is giving his 2 cents and has posted on Instagram some dazzling new fan art of Chopra in the guise of the character.
At first blush, Chopra’s Catwoman costume appears to be inspired by both Pfeiffer’s stitched up bodysuit and Berry’s more simplified look, with a chopped up halter top and sleek pants. And while Catwoman has a firm grip on her cat o’ nine tales and her ears are firmly in place, clearly missing from the whole get-up is the character’s requisite mask. Of course, BossLogic may have left that vital detail out on purpose, just to show Chopra in her full beauty.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this fan art is that Chopra (at least in public) has not been lobbying to play Catwoman in Gotham City Sirens, but instead has expressed interest in playing the titular character in Joss Whedon’s Batgirl. But by judging by BossLogic’s impressive new portrait, perhaps Chopra should start lobbying for the role of Catwoman, too.
If Chopra decides to go that route, she already has some high-profile competition. Baby Driver butt-kicker Eiza Gonzalez teased the role earlier this summer, while Legion star Aubrey Plaza has expressed interest, too.
