Just like the people on Catfish, Nev met Laura online, specifically by sliding into her DMs on Instagram. Nev eventually asked the freelance copywriter and photographer, whose past clients include Calvin Klein and Stella Artois, out to dinner. Nev quickly fell hard for Laura, but baggage from a previous relationship almost ruined the new one he was developing with her, as revealed in an interview with Us Weekly in 2018. “I just got out of a thing, and I had been damaged by that, and I felt that maybe I was all messed up, and I wasn’t ready. I screwed it up and then I had to win her back,” Nev confessed. Alas, his tactics did work, and the couple decided to reconcile.
Nev Schulman and Laura Perlongo announced their pregnancy to the Catfish fans in May 2016. On October 21, 2016, the couple celebrated the birth of their first child, Cleo James. Laura captured the beautiful moment with their daughter on Instagram: "Completely enamored with Cleo James born this morning at 6:01. She's everything." The following year, Nev and Laura made their relationship even more official - tying the knot in July 2017 in a backyard ceremony at Nev's father's house in East Hampton, New York.
