Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been giving new meaning to the phrase, 'gotta catch em' all' since its release back in March. Giving fans of the series something to occupy themselves with during the Covid-19 Quarantine, New Horizon's Critterpedias are overflowing with new... well... critters to catch.

As players have come to learn, certain critters are only available at certain times of the year. With the summer months in full swing, a handful of those specimens will be crawling around waiting for curious collectors with eager nets. This guide will walk players through everything they need to know about catching the Giraffe Stag in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How to Catch the Giraffe Stag in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The most important thing to note when it comes to the Giraffe Stag is the narrow window of opportunity one has to find and catch it. Brand new to the game, this a critter that veterans won't want to miss out on. Northern Hemisphere players should be ready as of July 1st as the big beetle will only be catchable in July and August. Our friends to the south will have to wait until January and February to add it to their critter collection. Time-wise, the Giraffe Stag will appear from 5 pm - 8 am.

Pack a cooler and lay out a towel because players will be heading to the sandy shores of their island in search of the Giraffe Stag. Thankfully, the Giraffe Stag sticks out like a sore thumb on the palm trees it likes to call home. Don't spook it though. With the net equipped, hold B on the Joycon and use stealth to your advantage. Lightly push up on the joystick to creep forward. As the sun sets, palm trees will give off a shadow. Players can utilize this shadow to know if they are close enough to catch the Giraffe Stag without missing completely or whacking the palm tree. Both latter options will result in a frightened bug and a lost opportunity. (Standing about one space away is the ideal distance) A perfectly executed plan has resulted in catching a Giraffe Stag. Yay! But now what? Let's say one has a few Stags in their pocket. How much are they worth? Good news! Players looking to cash in will be happily surprised when their Giraffe Stags net them 12,000 Bells a piece. Cha-Ching! Collectors will want to be sure to donate their first Giraffe Stag to Blathers. Although he hates bug, the Giraffe Stag is an important part of his museum. Players will know if they've already donated a Giraffe Stag to Blathers by the tiny Owl stamp in their Critterpedia.

Alternatively, patient players will want to wait for Flick, the bug connoisseur, to pay them handsomely for their Giraffe Stags. Flick will appear randomly on the Island and pay players 1.5x the Bells for any of their bugs. That makes the Giraffe Stag worth 18,000 Bells! Designers may also want to hold onto three Giraffe Stags as Flick will turn them into a fabulous bug sculpture suitable for any Entomologist's home.
